To satisfy my In-N-Out fix Labor Day weekend, I skipped the comp'd breakfast buffet at the Sheraton Cerritos and drove instead to the nearest In-N-Out for a double-double and fries. I get mine with lettuce and light mustard only so I get the full taste of the beef and cheese.

I'm not the biggest fan on in-n-out, but they're definitely a cut above many other fast food bugers. I'm normally a single patty sort of guy, but when hungry I'll get a double meat at in-n-out, and bringing up the meat flavor over the bun/ketchup/LT improves it.
Meanwhile, I was reminded recently of why I don't do that at most fast food places - because doubling the amount of meat generally makes it taste WORSE at other places.
"Ultimate Bacon Cheeseburger" at Jack in the Box - ugh. Much improved by removing and throwing away most of the second patty.

Big In-n-Out fan here. But last week had a neopolitan milkshake (layered choc, vanilla, straw), and midway through had a sudden vision of the thick milkshake oozing through my arteries. I think I'll have to take a break from dbl-dbl animal style burgers for a while. Maybe rediscover those so-called "salad" meals every once in a while...

It's not on the menu but you can ask for a "grilled cheese" at In-N-Out. It's a hamburger without the meat.

Not to be too OT, but I finally had my first taste of Five Guys during a road trip from NYC to CHI last week. Having grown up in California and on In-N-Out, I have to say I was absolutely blown away by how much better Five Guys was--thick, meaty patties, great seasonings, and awesome thick, seasoned fries (especially when covered in malt vinegar). I enjoy In-N-Out on occasion, but the thin patties, overbearing tangy sauce, and wimpy, undercooked fries just don't compare to Five Guys.

Five Guys: Five Times as good as In-N-Out!(tm)
Interesting my wife and I tried Five Guys in Kalispell MT recently (I have not seen one in Washington yet)and I suggested to her that we give it a try. My wife thought her burger was great I thought mine did not even come close to In-N -out.Warning to people with nut allergies French fries are cooked in peanut oil. They had a sign that you could see when you ordered but it did not sink in because I don't have an allergy my wife spotted the sign from our seat and thanfully skipped on the fries or I would have needed to visit the local ER.They should make it better known about the peanut oil. Oh I also will take McDonald fries over INO or Five Guys but I wish they gave ya vinegar
On a 2 week Fly-drive trip last year to California my wife and I try Jack In The Box for the first time and we got hooked on their Sirloin line of burgers, and for a fast food joint they were a great burger, but be for warned quality and taste of this premium burger varied greatly at different locations, the worst being Bakersfield & Long Beach and the best near San Jose & Carson City, Nev.

Ditto - I gave Five Guys a try after moving to the East Coast from California two years ago, and haven't looked back since!
Ok, my FT friends, I am heading to SD on Sept 26th for a week long "girls trip" celebrating our 50th bdays. My first stop is going to be In-N-Out burgers. Looks like there is only one in SD area, could this be true? In OK we have Whataburger, Carls Jr, Micky D's for fast food options. Can't wait to try this highly recommended burger. Update and review to follow. tee hee
