Yep, although I have had some good 'Q there and decent Italian.

World Sports Cafe in Fresno is owned by Tim McDonald, who wore #46 playing defense for the SF 49ers. Good but not great food. But there are so many video screens going most people probably don't notice the food.

I'm sure you're absolutely correct. Gretzky's wouldn't strike me as a destination restaurant at all. The thread referred to "decent food". IME, most (but not all) celeb-named places aren't very good.

All I was saying was that Gretzky's was a fun place for a visitor to take the entire family. I've been twice with the kids, and the experience was one of a fun atmophere, friendly competent staff, decent food, and reasonable prices. I could also see where it would be a fun hangout before/after a hockey game or other sporting event. Certainly dozens of better places in downtown YYZ, but we were talking about celeb-named.

What movie was Cabo Wabo in? Or on what team?

I think I was at a place with this name at Tahoe some time ago - mediocre Mexican style food at best.

Anyone seriously considering any of these celebrity places as a good eating destination either has a low threshhold or should consult other restaurant recommendations.

The Tahoe location is also owned by Sammy Hagar.

One that stands out is NFL player Junior Seau's place in San Diego's Mission Valley. Besides the regular seating area and menu, what I really liked here was a separate area with a sushi bar and Japanese menu. Easy view of the big-screens and excellent, friendly service made it a good way to spend a couple of hours on a playoff afternoon.

Down here in S.Florida, Dan Marino has a few restaurants. The food is passable, but they seem to exist more for the bar scene, which is not my thing.

And of course, Harry Caray's place in River North, Chicago, has good Italian food (once when I was there in the early '90s, the Great Man was two tables away, well into his Budweiser cups)

What are your favorites in this genre?
Brett Favre's in Green Bay has very good food as does Curly's at Lambeau Field (both open year round.)

I dined out there with two friends last year. Not only the Sushi Bar, but the Teriyaki Chicken I ordered were delicious as well.

Celebrity Owned Restaurants

I've been tempted but never succumbed to eating at a restaurant just because it was owned by a celebrity. I don't mean a celebrity chef like Wolfgang Puck but a celebrity such an a sports person or an entertainer.

I'm wondering who has eaten at a celebrity owned restaurant, how it was, and whether the owner was there.

Many, variable experiences (from *wow* to *whoa*), and sometimes yes.

my favorite in DC is now closed. Signatures, owned by jack abramoff.

A number of the other restaurants are either owned by politicos. the Caucus room comes to mind. has joint dem/rep ownership. run by sam & harrys, but not serving s&H food.

If one were to consider chefs as celebs, a very high percentage of restaurants in DC are owned and operated by a name celeb.

I saw a billboard when driving into Green Bay tha tBrad Favre's restaurant is the #4 destination in Green Bay... I didn't have enough time to stay to check it out, but would love to in the future.

Lambeau field looks cool!

I must admit I was very pleasantly surprised by a dinner I had at MJs steakhouse in Grand Central Station. Damn fine steak. Certainly comparable to Ruth Chris or Mortons in my opinion Great Wall
