The ORIGINAL Pancake House
All items made from scratch, high quality and a premium price, but well worth it.

For a chain restaurant, the "Country Griddle" pancakes at IHOP are pretty good - they have cream of wheat mixed into the batter. Sounds odd. I never woulda tried 'em if Ken Hoffman (the delightfully wacky writer for the Houston Chronicle) hadn't touted 'em so highly!

I always add the boysenberry syrup on top.

I've eaten at Pamela's, and at Dottie's True Blue. (In fact, I had the blueberry cornmeal pancakes that morning at Dottie's, and I remember them being good.) Fine breakfast choices, certainly. I can't really say if they've got the "best" pancakes. It's just not a common order for me. I'd probably more likely choose an omelette at most places. (If there's a house specialty, I might lean towards that. Otherwise, right now, I'm not in eating breakfast out mode at all.)
We have a branch of Original Pancake House in the area, but I've never eaten there.

We discovered it in Portland about 25 years ago while I was attending summer school in that lovely city. In fact I believe we saw one of the original owners (who has sinced passed away) in there more than once. It was well worth the 45-minute wait some Sunday mornings and we gradually ate our way through the menu. We've returned there every few years when traveling in or through Portland and the quality remains high AFAIK.

Also, I will add one more (that is a lot better than PJ's). For those in the San Fernando Valley, there's a place in San Fernando called Pancake Heaven. Good stuff. Been around forever and a day.
