I've heard people previously complain that Mos Burger was different outside of Japan (possibly it was about Taipei?). I quite like Mos Burger in Japan - it's like a MacDonalds burger if it was made with care and really high quality fresh ingredients. Much more to my taste than the mid-market American burger shops of the last 5 years with queues going on for hours.

If we're going to stretch fast food to Nandos you could almost go as far as saying that Din Fai Tung (Taiwan's legendary and often Michelin starred dumpling shops) would count too. I'll basically go in and eat whenever and wherever I see one.

Talking of Taiwan, Japanese chain tonkatsu curry shops with particularly pungent curry sauces are very popular there. Nice they are too.

Agree about the sandwiches, but the wraps are much better, and the salads are IMHO very good.

Based on this, would Yo! sushi be considered fast food? I don't think it's half bad, for the price. Never been into Nandos, hard as that is to believe. Looks like there are even a few Wimpy's left.

In Germany I like Nordsee, but again, that might be stretching the definition.

I thoroughly enjoyed Teremok while visiting Russia. Delicious blini and soups and wildly popular with the natives. They now have close to 200 locations.

I'm not sure if their US expansion plans ever happened but that was their goal in 2014: http://rbth.com/business/2014/02/06/...est_33917.html

Oh, I also give credit to Mr. Donut in El Salvador, because they had local treats too. Can't say I'm much of a fan of the Japanese version though.

Hong Kong

I like, Cafe De Coral, a Hong Kong fast food chain. I've eaten there pretty much every time I've visited HKG, back to when I was a kid on family vacations. My fav is the brisket curry and rice with a nice iced milk tea.

They're all over HKG, with over 100 locations, so it's pretty easy to find one.

I've never been in a Nordsee but the food does look nice (they're in Austria as well as Germany incidentally).

I used to like Quick in Belgium. Haven't had it in years.

And Chefette in Barbados.

We had bottles in the gift bags from the Star Wars Ep III premier back in 2005. IIRC, they did something like call them "Lando's" instead of "Nando's." Made sense in retrospect given the Artists for a New South Africa were the hosts for the particular charity premier we attended.

I've had spicier, but they were tasty.

Tim Horton's seems to be making another round of attempted expansion south of the Canadian border.

I'd give MOS Burger a passing grade in Hong Kong but it's a bit weak in Thailand.

I think that may tie in to being owned by Burger King now. There is a Tim Horton's Express about 45 minutes from us now. It's new, and is in the same convenience store complex with a Burger King. They don't have the full Tim Horton's sandwich line, but they do have donuts, muffins, and coffee.
