Do you seek out brewery tours, tap rooms, stores, and brewpubs when you travel?

Wanted to tour the Fire Island brewery while on vacation last summer, only to find that it's actually produced near Saratoga. The company's office is the only part of the company on FI.

I don't seek out brewery tours but I certainly enjoyed the Sam Adams tour I took a few years ago. I do love good beer though so if I can find a local bar with lots of goodies on tap I'll always go. Some of my favorites are:
- Four Peaks Brewing Company, Tempe, AZ
- Papago Brewing Company, Scottsdale, AZ
- Grizzly Peak Brewing Company, Ann Arbor, MI

Portland, OR
Portland has a multitude of microbreweries. The one time I went I joined a minibus tour that stopped at several. A few tour operators I found are:
- Portland Brew Bus
- Brewvana Brewery Tours
- Portland Brew Bus

Believe or not, the micro breweries always seem to have great food. I know pubs have a reputation for less than stellar food. I love Rockbottom Brewery in Cincinnati. I believe they're actually a franchise with other locations. Would love to visit Sam Adams in Boston.

Yes. This is exactly why I travel. Beer, mead, and cider, along with food, are what I always look for.
My favorites have been, in no particular order:
1. Jolly Pumpkin Old Mission, Traverse City, MI
2. Great Lakes Brewing, Cleveland, OH
3. Kuhnhenn Brewing, Detroit, MI
4. IJ Brewery, Amsterdam, NL
5. Cantillon Brewery, Brussels, BE
6. De Heeren Van Leidekerke, Leidekerke, BE
7. Short's Brewery, Bel Aire, MI
8. Terrapin Brewery, Athens, GA
9. Cigar City Brewery, Tampa, FL
10. My hometown bar Redlight Redlight, Orlando, FL
I must ask, since you are from Orlando, do I know you? I know a lot of guys in the beer scene around here, and we meet up at Redlight Redlight often.

I might be getting out to Portland over the next few months, so this is useful info to me!

Rock Bottom is a chain. They have several locations, and if you frequent them, you should join their mug club. You earn various goodies and credits for each visit and pint.

Beer Festivals
I don't want to divert the thread but another reason to travel may be to visit a beer festival. Oktoberfest is probably the most well known but there are several hundred other large and small fests around the world each year - some more deserving of travel than others.
If anyone has found a festival truly travel worthy I'd like to know.

But I also enjoy good golf, too, so it's a match made in heaven for me.

Yes.
Best large brewery tour I've been on:
Sam Adams Boston - great free sample room & lots of beer poured
There have been Flyertalk Dos at some taprooms, 3 Floyds in Munster IN being one of
them: http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/commu...m-munster.html

I went to Mondial des Cidres de Glace (Ice Cider Festival) in Rougemont, just outside of Montreal, this past February. It was awesome. A small festival, but a great time and you get to try a variety of unique ice ciders.
Great Taste of the Midwest is a good one, in Madison, WI.
I attended the American Craft Beer Festival in Boston a few years ago. It is huge, but was still a good time.
And, Great American Beer Festival is the granddaddy of them all, in Denver every October.

I think that the Hop Harvest Festival in atec, Czech Republic is worth traveling to. Combine that with a trip to the Chodovar Beer Wellness center in Chodová Planá, Czech Republic and you have a definite winner.
Oktoberfest (München) is something that needs to be experienced at least once.
The Bamberg Sandkerwa, Annafest Forchheim, Nürnberg Altstadtfest, Erlanger Bergkirchweih, etc. are all good but IMO not worth flying over the Atlantic over for.
The Czech Beer Festival in Prague is interesting but a good 85%+ of the attendees are native English speakers.

I've been to quite a few brewpubs and breweries. I try to make a point of visiting the local beer places wherever I go (although I've learned that the only places with good beer in Asia are the ones that cater to westerners).
Breweries
New Belgium (Fort Collins, CO)
Oskar Blues (Lyons, CO)
Cantillon (Brussels, Belgium)
Dogfish Head (Milton, DE)
Brooklyn Brewery (Brooklyn, NY)
Yuengling (Pottsville, PA)
Victory (Downingtown, PA)
Jack Daniels (Lynchburg, TN) (a distillery, I know)
Harpoon (Boston, MA)
Great Divide (Denver, CO)
Dry Dock Brewing Co (Aurora, CO)
Sam Adams / Boston Beer Co (Boston, MA)
MillerCoors (Golden, CO)
Brewpubs:
Nodding Head (Philadelphia, PA)
Iron Hill (a bunch of them)
Rock Bottom (a bunch of them)
Triumph Brewing Co (Philadelphia, PA & New Hope, PA)
Tampa Bay Brewing Company (Tampa, FL)
Lancaster Brewing Co (Harrisburg, PA)
Appalachian Brewing Co (Harrisburg, PA)
Mountain Sun (Boulder, CO)
Dock Street (Philadelphia, PA)
CB & Potts (Greenwood Village, CO)
Heartland Brewery (Manhattan, NY)
NXNW (Austin, TX)
The Pump Room (Singapore)
I also travel to 3-4 beer fests a year. I've also been to Brussels and Munich on vacation, mostly for beer.
