Hopefully one of my neighbors will come by to finish off the mass produced ones as it will soon be time to stock up on the pumpkin flavored ales.

You have brought back fond memories of the Spaten and Paulaner tents @Oktoberfest, I need to see if I can find those locally.
I have no memories of my trip to Oktoberfest....!

In my defence, I was in my early twenties and have returned to Muenchen many times since and behaved more responsibly

Yum.

And I'm absolutely looking forward to this...

Earlier this year, I asked the nice people at Breckenridge Distillery how often they give their used bourbon barrels to local beer companies for aging beers. They said only one had expressed interest (Breckenridge Brewery). Nice to see more breweries are contacting them. I might look into buying a case of this to celebrate graduating from grad school this December.

I picked up a 4 pack of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Stout and another of Kentucky Bourbon Barrel Ale. Big disappointments. Glad they are only 4-packs.

The best ale I've had out of Kentucky was from Bluegrass Brewing Co. I thought their American Ale was wonderful. Warning: You must like hops.

Any beer I've had with bourbon in the name has ended up being too sweet. Was that your complaint?

The stout had no head (let's keep our minds on beer here). Frankly, if you didn't tell me it was supposed to be brewed in bourbon casks, I would have said it was a straight up chocolate/coffee stout. Really underwhelming notes of bourbon.

Their ale was marginally better. I believe the label says its "barleywine-style", and that description was apt. But, like the stout, I just didn't find any discernable bourbon notes. I even tried putting it in a snifter glass like they recommended.

It wasn't horrid. It just wasn't what I was expecting in terms of a "bourbon" ale (or stout). I will take a look at the Bluegrass Bourbon Barrel Brown Nitro.
