I've had three different vintages at various times; all of them have struck me as not very beer-like and, if I'd been paying for it, not really worth the hype-driven price.

Sorry, Jim.

I'd describe Utopias as syrupy and cognac-like, completely uncarbonated and a bit overly sweet with notes of butterscotch and vanilla. Here's a link to some tasting notes for Utopias (not mine).

Although, a beer bar in Richmond, Va. got a bottle of Utopias and they raffled off ($5 a chance) two-ounce tastes to 12 winners with all the money raised going to Haitian relief. If I'd been down there, that is a glass of Utopias I would have happily paid for.

Got some 'winter' brews...even though it's warming up now. (At least in Texas!) Kind of random, just kinda grabbed a few at Whole Foods...we'll see how they turn out this weekend!

Yes, please come back and tell us what you thought of the Shiner Frost. I've seen it at Central Market, but haven't yet tested the waters.

Currently, (2) Fat Tire's in my fridge, but they'll be getting some buddies joining them later this evening.

Best regards,

Case of Kirkland (Costco) (six of german lager, six of amber ale, six of pale ale, and six of hefeweizen). Gordon Biersch makes it and the best $18 case you can buy.

We made a shopping run into Knoxville today. I supplemented the six of Fat Tire already in the fridge with:

Flying Dog Tire Bite Golden Ale
Flying Dog Dogtoberfest
Flying Dog Garde Dog
Ft Collins Brewery Chocolate Stout
Kona Brewing Co. Longboard Lager
Magic Hat #9 Not Quite Pale Ale
Dogfish Head Indian Brown Ale
Dogfish Head Palo Santo Marron

None of which I have tried before. Should be a fun week!
