Delta PM Threshold Reward

I have a question about the threshold rewards for passing 100k+ MQMs. Specifically:

Earn 100,000 MQMs—enjoy your choice of 15,000 bonus miles, 7,500 Carryover MQMs*, four One-Day Delta Sky Club™ passes, Silver Medallion status to gift to a friend or $100 Marriott® Bonus Bucks®.

What are the exact mechanics of this? Say the friend to be gifted was at 12k MQMs; would the friend then recieve 25k MQMs to a total of 37k? would they just be pushed to 25k even? or would they still show 12k MQMs in their SM account with Silver Medallion status listed?

The last one would be my guess as to how that would work. They would simply get the status bump (similar to a status match).

I think if DL were to give 25K MQMs to the friend then they would market it that way.

When they had gifting status as an option 4-5 years ago, they just changed the status, MQM stayed the same.

+1.

I did this for a colleague a few years back, and that is what happened. All of his mileage levels stayed the same, just the status changed.

I gifted my daughter FO status and her MQMs remained the same.

Disappointing that there's no MQM bonus. Oh well.

Last year, it took 3 months to post after exchanging half dozen phone calls.

^ I got this email today, too. It was a pleasant surprise, as I had forgotten about this year's threshold bonuses.

Is it just me, or is the FO gift the best choice? Especially if you have a wife, significant other, frequent travel companion without status?

Agreed. I'm surprised it is given at the 100K level. Pretty low if you ask me. That should be at 125K or 150K.

Is the FO gift for next year or just the balance of this year?
My wife is already FO this year but won't make it next year.
