If the load factors on the 744 to HNL don't work out for profitable year-round service, what do some of you knowledgable folks suppose the fall-back aircraft would be?

Can we have a five second review of the wine offered on the flight?
Were the Delta signature cocktails offered in addition to the Mai Tai?
I'll post a more robust review later this evening of my experience yesterday, but:
Wines - ala domestic service - one red (Shiraz), one white (Chardonnay) - nothing special, but they weren't mouthwash either..
No mention of the signature cocktails, and I didn't ask for one. They DID have Woodford Reserve, so I suppose they may have had them (the crew was unfamiliar with Woodford)
I have noticed that the Manhattan signature cocktail mix has dissappeared - shame because I liked it, but I think they had trouble with them going bad (I had one that went bad/sour and it wasn't pretty)

I love the short ribs.

Nothing standard DL domestic about that.

Is this just THE snack basket? There is nothing particularly NW or international about it, right?

Actually no....everyone wasn't hoping this. The food that you describe is fine. It has extras....including a sundae and a second meal/snack. That is fine with me and they can spend their money someplace else making money or actually making a profit.

Actually I think both directions leave too early. You have to leave pretty damn early to make a connection to this flight. I would guess that some markets can't do it at all. For what, a 1:30 PM arrival? And you are right the 5:30 AM return is just about silly.

Have you flown in the Delta one? We know wideawakeinatl won't have the same opinion as you will but is it OK if he has one?

I love CO and BusinessFirst, but the 767 seats to Hawaii aren't particularly impressive. And while I've never flown the NW WBC seats, based on the specifications, they should be better seats, unless you flat out have an aversion to the angled-flat type of seats.

That's just silliness, unless you are a shareholder, in which case I guess it's fine. I could care less whether DL makes a profit, but if I pay for a first class seat, I want first class service, including catering, and this just didn't sound impressive.
Do you just want some caviar served to you on a gold platter? Can I escort you from the gate to your car? What else can you really ask for? I think you are getting a lot already. I think there is enough already for your trip to Hawaii! Look at the other flights to Hawaii. None of them have WBC/BE seats, they don't even get Personal IFE.

I am not a shareholder and yes, I give a damn whether Delta makes a profit or not. They won't be around if they don't and I want them to be around. I am not nearly high maintenance enough to demand anything more than what was described....especially when I will likely be paying about $10 for the flight. But even if I was paying more, it wouldn't make that much of a difference.

I believe the point ijgordon was making is that it would be nice if they just matched the food/beverage svc level of the NW A330 flights to HNL, which (used to at least) have a bit more elaborate service (white table cloths, cloth napkins, salads served from the cart with your choice of dressing added for you, tropical nut mix served in small ramekins with cocktail svc, etc). It was more "special", in keeping with the destination and length of the flight. On my flight anyway, the FA's really seemed to enjoy pulling out all the stops.

Just in case you hadn't noticed...all flights by all airlines to HNL "used to" have a bit more elaborate service.

I am disappointed that the service will not equal the A330 from MSP that I originally booked. Due to a schedule change of that flight, I was rebooked on the ATL flight hoping for comparable service. It is a shame that Delta is not trying to take the best of NW and create a top-notch airline. We will, of course, enjoy the WBC seats and the comfort of the upstairs.
Delta paper placemats were used.
The napkins were the thick bond paper...almost cloth-like.
My special seafood meal consisted of grilled salmon.
It actually was very tasty and served with a ginger-type rice.
It was hot and, frankly, good.
FAs made just one pass with the beverages.
After that I had to ask for refills of my wine.
Dessert was sundeas with butterscotch, hotfudge, nuts, whipped cream topping options.
It was the saddest excuse of a sundae, ever.
Two "pads" of vanilla ice cream....each smaller than a table tennis ball.
(I guess I'm spoiled by CO's definition of a first class sundae...)
A snack basket was available for self-serve at the back of the upstairs cabin.
Approximately an hour before arrival in HNL a sandwich was served.
Very large in size with a bag of chips and fruit "cup".
Bottom Line:
It's domestic first class with sparkling wine.
My seat cushion had about as much padding as a park bench.
The FAs were nice, but not by any means attentive.
The seating is greatly better than the old DL 767s, but the service is about the same.

Wow, that's odd. Could be an ATL catering thing. Out of MSP, I've gotten good sized sundaes (the same size I've seen on CO). PM me if you'd like a pic to compare.
