I knew I wasn't crazy... I tell everyone that this is one of the reasons I love DL, because I can nearly always make a 40 minute connection in ATL, DTW, etc...
I find it funny how much some people will let one bad experience with an airline sour their opinion so much that the insist on flying US and WN.

Kudos to DL!
I do hear a lot of love for WN, but I don't recall the last time I've heard anything good about US. I myself am batting 100% for arrival delays of at least an hour over the past two years with US.

Same problem here, and as US has a major hub in PHL, it's hard to not fly them. But, the combination of constant delays and abysmal customer service helped make the decision for me.
Perhaps, part of the reason could be that now Delta preemptively announces at booking that JKF/SAN for example is a 6.5 hr flight when it use to be 5.5 hr...

Yeah, but that's pretty common especially out of the hubs where you can taxi for 30 or 45 minutes after leaving the gate.
I'm on my 12th segment of the year on Delta right now and I've have arrived early on every flight, some by as much as 30 minutes...I'm on SNA to MSP right now and based on flight time we should be better than 30 minutes early.
Over 180 segments last year and very few late arrivals, none that coursed me to miss a connection
June 2010 to Sep 2011 was when I really started to fly a lot for work, and flew an mix of WN and UA (mostly UA). In that period I had roughly 80% of my flights have some sort of major delay, and had roughly 50% result in an overnight stay near an airport due to missing my connection due to the first flight beind delayed. Very rough year for travel for me, and really turned my wife off of the idea of me traveling more. Second half of 2011 I switched to DL and since then I have had only one missed connection where I had to stay overnight in SLC, and have been flying about double the amount I flew on UA/WN.
DL has done very well while UA and AA have just imploded. WN is suffering from the reality of finally operating in congested airports and airports with frequent weather delays they have always tried to avoid (PHL, BOS, SFO, etc.). My experiences with US have been limited in the past year but not terribly bad...particularly through CLT.
They're gotten lucky to some degree with weather. We barely had any of the kind of scheduling-killing fog that's common in fall and winter along the Northern Gulf Coast in 4Q 2012, and there really weren't too many severe weather events in general between Sandy and the new year.

Easy to be on time when the schedule is heavily padded.
