Not sure if it was already discussed, but over at "Point me to the Plane" he mentions Hawaiian is starting a HNL-AKL route that will be 3x this spring/summer and 4x weekly in the fall. It'll be operated by their A330. It's not known for sure whether it will be bookable with DL miles, but if so it opens up another option to get to NZ. Definitely something to keep an eye on.

And if I book the return LAX/DPS early next year, I can take advantage of the return flight, and find another one-way home (similar to what I'm doing now).
Yes, costs the same. You are correct, if you want to use the return on a later date book that.

It never hurts to remind folks about HA and TN options to NZ, but indeed this is old news. I mentioned this flight back in September 2012 http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/19283784-post86.html

Regarding OK (Czech Airlines), it looks like award availability may now be in ExpertFlyer. The catch is that you search under "Flight Availability" instead of "Awards & Upgrades;" if you search under Flight Availability, the Z & E classes (J & Y award, respectively) show up.

Do you know if it will indeed be bookable with DL miles, since not al HA flights are?

I assume it is (same as HNL-SYD and HNL-PPT, see more here http://www.flyertalk.com/forum/20012770-post67.html), but I never tested this option as I prefer the option of LAX-PPT-AKL on TN. Apparently, TN would have a completely remod Business class cabin on their 343s in the second half of the year.

OK Award availability has always been in ExpertFlyer under the Award & Upgrade search:

booked a China-Europe Round trip ticket in Economy for GF
First called in North America Center, could not pull up the availability from mu for CTU-PVG but got down the international segment, pvg-cdg(<24 hr layover)-dus, cgn-ams(12 hr layover)-ctu. The agent priced it out as 160kmiles, asked to hold and hung up.
called in to Singapore center, the agent was able to see the availability for MU but not on the desired flight time. The trip however priced out correctly as 80k although ctu-pvg segment was not included.
Called in to MU for availability on award flights from ctu-pvg on that day, got down the flight numbers that show avaibility.
called back into Singapore center, add the segment but was told the agent messed up the first and last name so had to reissue a ticket.
Eventually, the trip is CTU-PVG(18 hr layover)-CDG(20 hr layover)-DUS
CGN-AMS(12hr layover)-CTU. 80k miles + 222 sgd dollars in tax
The domestic china segment is on MU, outbound flights are on AF, inbound flights are on KL.
The entire phone-in time took me approx 2 hours.

Just tried to book a CDG - PRG flight on Czech (OK). Airfrance.us shows several OK flights available but the Delta agent couldn't find any. She did put me on hold for a while to see if she could get the Czech flights but after a while I was suddenly transferred to the survey. Does AF have different availability for Czech flights than Delta?

I will try calling again and post my experience.

OK759 on May 18th, 21st or 22nd. AF shows plenty of availability on that and several other OK flights but DL can't find any of them.

Thanks for your help!

Those Award Seats are definitely available -- for tips on dealing with Agents, who may claim otherwise, please see http://Help.KVSTool.com/#AgentSaysNo

After a schedule change, I changed my DL award ticket last night with the help of a good SLC agent. I now have 5 DL and 2 KL flights in my reservation. Flights show ok on DL.com and SaudiAirlines.com, but on AF.us and KLM.com only 2 flights show from this reservation: one DL and one KL flight. I can change seats just fine for the Dl flights on DL.com. Note that this reservation contains a problematic intra-Europe KL flight that was "selling out", but the agent was able to push it through somehow. Should I be concerned about what AF.us/KLM.com display? I tried looking up by both DL PNR and ticket number and the end result is the same.

I'd be a bit worried that one of the KL flights doesn't show. It's not uncommon for AF/KL to not show all of the DL flights. Typically just the ones you connect to/from. For instance, an upcoming trip of mine is routed OMA-MSP-AMS-BUD with the first two segments on DL. KL only shows the MSP-AMS-BUD sectors. Similarly the return is BUD-AMS-IAD(stop)-ATL-OMA, and DL.dumb (despite this being on 006 stock) doesn't see BUD-AMS. However, the operating carrier should definitely show the flight. You might try tweeting @KLM to see if they can check what's up.
