Earlier today I noticed a post on the UA forum discussing the above. It appears to be targeted specifically at DL elites at all levels. A link to the Mileage Plus web page follows, in case someone who hasn't seen it is interested:

Here is the problem with their "match"...
If you have already bought your travel for the next quarter, you are not going to cancel it to fly UA to make the challenge. So they have effectively made it irrellevant to someone like me who actually has the luxury of knowing most of their travel 90 out.
If you already had a couple of trips booked on UA and could throw a couple more their way to make it in 90, then you would be able to pull it off. Or one international J could do it. Otherwise, I just don't see it.
I have 70K booked now till April, but it's already ticketed. Sorry UA.
My DL Platinum is going to DL SM this year (AA Platinum till 2014). I am rolling 22.5K EQM. Home airport is LAX and 95% are domestic flights:
My options are:
1) Take the challange to United PLT... for 18K PQM, I get PLT till 2014...
2) Stay with Delta and fly 52.5K and get delta PLT till 2015..
My goal is to use miles for Business Class or First class to Asia...
Any thoughts would be greatly appreciated...

Sounds like you might be able to get PM on UA with the match and GM on DL with the rollover? Then you would be in good shape no matter who you fly.
Delta Diamond here. Contacted United two weeks ago for status match. Sent them a screen shot of my MQM's and they gave me 1K through 3/31 which is extended rest of year with 30K EQM's.

I had 105k mqms in 2012. Do you think United will do a 1K match or only platinum?

Thanks for this ... I'm planning on matching later this year, but a DM friend of mine recently asked me about matching to 1K. How long did it take for United to respond? Was it just a screen shot of MQMs or was it also flight activity? He only got past 125K because of 40K MQMs from DL Reserve spend.
Summer 2012 as DM I requested 1K by email, UA took over a month to respond - I also requested matching for my family at lower status at the same time - that happened automatically within days.
After several email (calls were worthless),I finally got the 1K match thru 2013 and I have been pleased with 100% upgrade success with UA out of IAD. I probably won't achieve 1K after 2013 since I still fly DL alot, but I am enjoying my 1K for 1 year.
UA's phone customer service seems to me to be the most glaring difference between the two. DL tries alot harder, UA didn't seem to try at all, even after I became 1K - the 1K line was not very helpful. I was also surprised that 1K do not get lounge access.
Btw - 1K matching does not include SWU/RPU/GPUs, just the status (at least for me it didn't).

If I were you, I would stick with DL
You DL elites don't realize what you have. Sure, you have "SkyPesos" for award redemption, but I wouldn't be surprised if UA will soon devalue their redeemable miles. Everything else with MileagePlus has gone downhill since CO took over.
Coming from UA, post 3/3/12, elite treatment and benefits have consistently deteriorated. Upgrade lists became unreliable/erroneously eliminated. Elite phone lines (including the GS VIP line) became unreliable with long hold times and new agents who didn't understand the new rules). Sure, there are wonderful ground staff and flight crews who really took care of me as a 1K and a GS, but overall the elite program is nowhere near as good as it used to be.
DL has much nicer lounges, more friendly and courteous ground staff, better technology...and after being with DL for a year now, I get the sense that DL takes pretty good care of their elites at all levels, not just the unpublished rev-based top tier.
Unless the routes are better and more cost effective, I honestly can't understand why anyone would consider moving their business over to United. The grass is greener here!
