I am a delta FO and Amex/Delta skymiles Gold card holder planing to travel to India with family. It is my understanding that I will be allowed to check in 2 50lbs bags for free. How many free bags my family can check in? I've called delta and getting conflicting answers. Your response will be greatly appreciated.

Shocking!
Might I suggest you email the question to DL, print the answer and have it with you when you go to the airport? Consistency and universal training are not DL's strong suits. There is a reason "If you don't like the answer, hang up and call back for a different answer" is one of the most commonly cited pieces of advice on FT's DL forum.
Of course, if you don't get your wanted answer in the first email, just email anew and you should get the desired answer the second time.
Asheville nc , Charlotte nc or Greenville/Spartanburg sc. Thank you, fellow members for responding promptly. Happy, Healthy,Safe and Prosperous New year to all.
All the tickets will be purchased with the same card on same reservation. When i purchase, I will have Amex/Delta skymiles Platinum card.
I am located in Hendersonville.
That same baggage benefit applies to members of your traveling party if they are on the same reservation as you.
If the accompanying family members are on the same PNR as you then they will get the same benefits as you.
If they are on separate PNRs ... even if their tickets were purchased using your AMEX DL credit card, they will get 1 free checked in bag (that weighs less than 50 libs) and will pay $75 for the 2nd bag (that weighs less than 50 lbs).
It gets pretty pricey for bags weighing more than 50 lbs ... $200 each to India!
My son traveled to BOM in October'12 and he ended up paying $75 for a duffel bag that he could have easily carried on, in addition to his computer bag.

I'm 99% sure the AMEX benefit is domestic flights only. It specifically says "first bag free" not "your first bag we would otherwise charge you for free". On International itins where you already get a free bag, I think you get bupkis.
