My Skymiles expire in two days (12/31/2012). I don't have the Delta credit card. How do I keep them from expiring in this short a time period? Last night I made a purchase through SkyMilesShopping.com in hopes of keeping the miles from expiring. But I'm not sure how long it will take for those miles to post. I suspect not quick enough.
What are my options? Really can't spend them on anything I want at the moment--would have to build up more or get another Delta credit card.
Thanks all. Glad I'm wrong. I had no idea. Some airlines, like Southwest(?), like to tout that their miles "never" expire. And then you see the fine print that says a qualifying mileage event must occur within X number of months or they *do* expire. Evidently not so with Delta. My mistake.
Now I have to figure out how to use ~21K miles without being a card holder (having been one before)--since non-card holders seem to be locked out of many redemption options. Short of donating them to charity or possibly getting theater tickets. Still seems like there's no transfer option to other partners. And I could gift the miles to my wife so we might have enough for one ticket. But the cost per mile seemed excessive. If I calculated correctly, ~$700 to gift the miles. Ouch. Not worth it.

The rare SM enhancement that was universally seen as an enhancement!
I think the confusion comes from the fact MQMs do expire at the end of the year, unless you have some that you can carry over and that happens if you qualify for elite status for the next year.

Why do you hafto hurry up and use them, since they don't expire? A free domestic ticket is 25K miles, with some advance planning and a little luck. Just hang onto them!

Great point. Aside from another potential miles devaluation event (none I know of at the moment) holding on sounds like a good plan.
Didn't realize 25K could still get a RT domestic ticket on Delta. Thought that all changed with the last devaluation of Skymiles.

Well, you might hafto go from Fargo ND to Appleton WI on the 6th Tuesday of the month when the moon is blue, but published lowest rate IS still 25K miles - - meaning that availability is somewhat limited at 25K. I rarely have trouble getting them, but I rarely use my miles for domestic tix, plus I have access to slightly better availability than a non / lower Medallion member.

Who knows, I may luck out. :-) Still no one-way awards (for half the miles) with Delta?

I just checked IND-RSW without listing me as a traveling passenger and found tons of availability at the 25,000 mark.
