Mileage Run It for 10K MQMs for PM status before next week or pony up the $995?

Hi All,
If you were me and short on cash due to xmas shopping, but need 10,000 MQMs to make PM, please read on. Would you mileage run it to get 10K MQMs for PM? Where would be a best place with good fares last minute?

Or would you just pony up the $995 for 10K MQMs? I'm hoping it gets considered as an incidental since I still have my Platinum AMEX Charge Card $200 incidental to use up before the 1st of Jan.

Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

a. Either pay the $995 for 10k MQMs

or

b. ROLLOVER the difference ... between GM and what you have .... to 2013 ... and do 1 or 2 MRs for the same price of $995 ... to get more MQMs ... and ensure you remain GM ... and then strive to make PM as early as possible in 2013.

My recommendation is b.

ps: use www.matrix.itasoftware.com to search for MRs or keep a close watch out on the MR Deals forum.

To get 10K MQMs last minute, you'll have to fly somewhere oversea and that can't be cheap. So buying MQMs sounds like the best option for you.

Depending on your travel plans for next year, it might be better to carry over 15k and spend that $1k on MRs after this holiday season when the fares are cheaper.

If you are short on cash, you don't need PM.

Depends on how much you want to obtain PM.....also, remember you get 1 choice benefit as a PM......that choice would help you offset the cost of buying the remaining MQMs.

Good luck

Before you "+1," i'll be getting a substantially higher salary in 2013. I'm running low before Dec 31.

being based in LA, not sure there is a significant difference between GM and PM. just roll over.

1) Where are you flying from?

2) How much flying do you intend to do next year, from where do you intend to fly, and to what destinations? If you are going to struggle to make GM and/or you are traveling on routes where the difference between GM and PM is minimal it might not pay to make the jump to PM

Can't wait for the person who posts on 12/31 that they are 10,001 MQM short and need to figure out how to make the next threshold.

Thanks NYStateofMind for the reply! I'm based out of LAX and will typically be on LAX-JFK, LAX-ATL and LAX-MSY flights in 2013. I know I'll be flying ~50,000miles and will be in the same boat again next year. I feel that I might not be flying as much in 2014 that's why I decided to post this thread and get some experienced flyers' advice. Those routes are unfortunately difficult to score an upgrade as a GM from past experience. I'm scoring 40% this year and even having trouble scoring the LAX-MSY upgrades on Non-peak days (Saturdays, Tuesday mornings, etc.) Thanks, any further advice is appreciated!

I'd go on a mileage run, at least for part of the mileage. That way you can get RDMs as well as MQMs from the money you'll be spending.
