Really? Last year, when I made FO for this first time, I had one ticket that I booked just prior to gaining status. The ticket agents made me pay for my checked bag both ways, also, I had zone 3 boarding and was told that it couldn't be changed, but that any flights booked while a silver would give me the silver benefits. I was told this is also the way it works when moving up from Silver to Gold, etc.... the benefits at time of ticketing are what one gets, not at time flown. Going down in status, one probably gets what they are at the time of the flight, but going up.....not so much.

I don't know if they do this in Topeka or not, but, here at PIT, on more than one occasion, at the check-in counter, I have overheard agents talking to customers telling them that if they fill out an Amex application and turn it in to them right there at the counter, they will get the free bag immediately.

Most likely your new status was not yet reflected on your sky miles acct.
In the future print out your SM MQM balance along with itinerary of your flown flight to qualify your for FO status and a redcoat or supervisor will waive your fee. You most definitely should not have paid the fee.

Amazing the unofficial deals they will cut when they're bribed to deliver applications. If Amex only knew how many long-term customers their pitch-mongers annoyed by accosting us in the terminals and on the aircraft.

Earlier this year, in September or so, I had an itinerary that was out on Sun, back on Thurs. Based on my Sun flights, I made Silver halfway through the itinerary. My Silver status was reflected on Tuesday. All of my upcoming trips (probably 3ish plus that return), immediately had "Upgrade Requested" on them and I was in fact upgraded on one leg of that return trip. I was also moved to Zone 1 boarding upon checking in for all of the ticketed trips I had.
I'm a plat status flyer with DL and will be travelling to Asia tomorrow. I have a baggage allowance of 3. But all of them have an excess ranging 10 to 20 lbs. Will DL calculate the overweight per bag or total them off? And by how much?

Rwoman,
From the Delta baggage FAQ I am showing gold and above get 70lbs Delta
SkyMiles Gold, Platinum and Diamond Medallion members, SkyTeam Elite Plus members, and Alaska Airlines MVP Gold members may continue to check two bags up to 70 lbs (32kg) at no charge on Delta and Delta Connection operated flights. This benefit will apply to up to nine people on the eligible members reservation.

70lbs is not a given, even for Medallions on international flights.
