Congrats on the operational upgrade. That's the silver lining to DL's stingy SWU redemption policy. I used to get quite a few (maybe 15-20%) when DL was my primary carrier.

Oversold Saturday-before-Christmas flight. Great move, sm0421. Enjoy!

Edit: I noticed numerous ovesold flights this morning at BOS. Airlines were offering $$$$ vouchers, you won't believe it.

I feel sorry for the folks who have to count on an operational upgrade for a route of that length on such a long haul.

How nice! As a Plat, I've never had an international upgrade.

My flight LAS-ATL yesterday had an equipment change and wound up oversold by 20. They offered $600 Delta Dollars, and guaranteed ugrades to FC on a flight leaving 5 hours later, to get the final 3 people they needed to volunteer.

I would say it's a requirement to get an upgrade at least one time out of three to make up for going that far in coach! This is why I go the other way to China (MIA-CDG-PEK) because they have premium economy, which, if you're careful, does't cost that much more than economy and yields 25K + MQMs. Instant Plat!

Well, that's how it starts!!! I was upgraded on NW a few times when I was silver from MSP all the way to BKK, it was just awesome, then you find how hard it is to travel in Y, and then you start trying to find "reasonable" biz fares, and you get hooked deeper and deeper until you only can imagine flying in biz on anything longer than a 1 hour flight, and then you get upgraded to 1st (on Emirates) and realize just how darn nice it is to take a shower in flight and then you start looking for "reasonable" First class seats, and find the feeling of how it is to be a movie star on a set, you just check-in and somebody is golf-carting or escorting you everywhere (on Thai for example) and you realize that you have to go back down to biz, but you don't want to and then you are so sucked into the happy air life that you can't imagine where all those people at your baggage claim came from since you only saw about 30 people on the plane in biz or first, and the way they dress, LOL, .... I'm just saying...

just landed and it was the best 13 hours flight EVAH!! non-stop food and wine and good choice of movies and a good bed to sleep on. Service was exceptional, truly exceptional. I always go back to China to see my parents and also pay on my dime ($1650 for this trip due to busy holiday weekend), I'm so relaxed now and I'm not tired at ALL!

My wife took the same flight from DTW a week earlier and they were offering $1,000 voucher for someone who can take the next day business cabin flight out of SEA, she had an visa appointment and she was flying J so she couldn't do that, but that's some good offer.

thank you guys for the comments and I'm hooked now~
