Terminal car service coming to LAX and DTW.

LAX is getting the Porsche service while DTW is getting Fords.

Rumor has it that MSP will be getting car service as well. I have feelers out to LedgeT and James50 at the rumor clearing house to confirm.

That'll really impress the people who are coming to DTW that work for other auto companies and won't work very well with puddle jumper connections.

Just wonder if this program was put together by the same people that over see the website.

What auto company would you choose for Detroit? No matter which one you pick it's going to offend someone from a different auto company. I'd say a US auto company is likely to offend the least number of people. Although I suspect the decision was largely driven by which company was willing to donate cars to the program.

Yeah, they pretty much don't have a choice in DTW. Any other choice would be like serving Pepsi in the ATL lounges.

And Porsche at ATL will upset every single American citizen transiting the hub? If you want your car company to be the one, donate the cars!

You obviously don't live in metro Detroit. Driving "foreign" is still a pretty big deal around here. Not like it was in the past, but you still see a lot of anti-import bumper stickers. Not saying it's right, but DL would definitely take heat if they had Porsches rolling around DTW.

MSP would get New Flyer Buses of course or perhaps a late model Ford Ranger

True, and Hertz always gives me impressive Ford cars at DTW, usually a fully loaded hot Mustang that's brand new. If you reserve a larger car, it tends to be a "sedan car service" style car. (Crown Vic? Lincoln Continental?)

Something tells me that the Mustang simply didn't sell well and Ford had to dump them on Hertz. I've received an "upgrade" to a Mustang the last few times I've rented from them.

Reminds me of when I was working on an annual fundraising event in ATL sponsored by Ford & we were booking a car service to drive execs in town from Dearborn for the weekend. This was some time in the early 90s when they did the big design overhaul of the Lincoln Town Car so it was a hot commodity. I'll never forget our office manager on the phone w the car service saying, in her proper British accent, "I don't care what Elton John wants, your drivers are absolutely NOT picking up Ford executives in a Cadillac!" We got the Town Cars as confirmed, and every year after that rented cars from Hertz & hired off-duty police officers to drive them.

When I had an Acura I would borrow a car from the local marketing office fleet for that weekend. Then finally I relented & bought a Volvo w their friends & family plan.

This is a marketing opportunity for the auto maker. Obviously Ford was more interested than GM or Dodge.
