Never had anything like this before. Flying yesterday ywg, msp, mia. My 730am gets cancelled, I get call at 4am from delta advising me. I log into delta and perfect I have automatically been rebooked at 9am, but will now go thru msp, then atl, and finally mia. Not the end of the world, 1 extra stop and will arrive 5.5 hours late ( I've had worse ). Wile waiting in the gate area I'm called to the desk. They say because my original ticket and paid class was 1 stop and now they have to add an extra stop I have to pay a fee before I can board? Before I could yell at her, she said its $1.46, I didn't know if I should laugh or cry? I let them swipe my card for yes one dollar and forty six cents, and boarded, and then wrote delta a nice email. Thought it was pretty funny. Assuming I will get a refund.

Wow, what gate agent in their right mind would do this? You have already been twice inconvenienced by first having your flight delayed and then adding an extra stop to your itinerary.

If I were you, I would have sent with the email a picture of the receipt and a $1.46 in cash... 5 quarters, a dime, two nickles and a penny would do the work
(even better, tweet the picture)

The GA had it wrong. There was no charge for the delay and extra hop, Delta provides those services free of charge. The $1.46 was the "customer contact outside normal working hours" fee for the 4AM cancellation phone call.
Seriously, that's bizarre. If you refused, would they have denied you boarding?

Don't know what the DL agent was smoking, but this is obviously a joke. I have been rerouted non-stop TATL through CDG before which would obviously be $50+ in taxes and was never charged a cent. Write to Delta and I am sure you'll get at least $150 for that kind of delay let alone the $1.46 joke.
Now that all receipts are posted to the DL web site, I think it would be interesting for the OP to post exactly what the receipt for this transaction said (minus of course any identifying info).
Delta who have instructed the GA to contact you for $1.46 is so crazy!
GA should have greeted you at the gate for gesture of good will, obviously not for $1.46 charge.
That is so wrong and crazy!
ROFLMAO....So, to get this correct, DL charged you at the gate $1.46 because DL:
1). Woke you up at 4:00 a.m.
2). Cancelled your first flight
3). Rebooked you on a 9:00 a.m. flight
4). You had one additional stop added to your original itinerary
5). Make you 5 1/2 hours late when compared to original arrival time.
They penalized you for their problem. Sounds like to me it was a "fare difference" for what you paid when compared to the new itinerary. If that happened to me a few years ago, AA would have made a killing off of my traveling party.
Book BOS-ORD-HNL-KOA. BOS-ORD was good, ORD-HNL cancelled. Rebooked ORD-MIA-LAX with a next morning flight to HNL then onto KOA. What would that have been worth to DL? $3.67 for changes.
