DM right at year end -gift wife gold?

I just had a thought at 4.00 am this morning. I am close to 125K and as stated on other threads was going to remain PM and do huge rollover for guaranteed PM until Feb 2015. However, long story short wife will lose Gold status after February - key reason looked after her mama in UK for over 7 months and our grand children are on west coast of Ireland and DL have dropped the JFK to SNN flights but United have flights into SNN.

If I were to purchase 10,000 MQMs and get diamond this year, could I choose another choice benefit (already had one for getting PM again) - and make it gifting Gold Status for 2013 for the wife?

yes you could. If she is going to start flying again, this would totally be worth it.

You get to choose 2 benefits as a DM. So you can gift her gold and then choose another one (miles, e-cert, gift card, SWU's, etc).

I already chose one in September when I reached Platinum again. So I am sure I only have one more.

I am in the same boat you are but haven't selected my PM gift yet.

I believe you get TWO additional Choice Benefits selections when you hit DM.

Could also consider a mileage run that might be less expensive than $995 for MQM purchase. Or Amex reserve for $450 if you don't already have that. Assuming you can meet minimum spend in time to get MQM's for 2012.

Presumably the CB you chose in September was for hitting PM for 2013 (good through 02/14). What rocknroll was saying is if you hit Diamond, you are allowed to select two more CB's for 2013. One of them could be GM for your wife, the other could be anything else (SWU's/miles/voucher/gift card/ etc).

Watch the date rules for some of them like gifting status/SWU/voucher. If you gift GM, you want to make sure it is valid through 02/14.

When you hit Platinum, you get to choose one benefit from the list. When you hit Diamond, you get to choose TWO benefits from the list. So a Diamond really gets 3 choice benefits. 1 benefit from the platinum list, and 2 benefits from the Diamond list.

Wow - I never knew that. The poster above has a good point - with regular flights MCI-EWR-SNN on UA, will it be worth it. She will have MCI-ATL-MAN to see our other two daughters and her mother. I am not going to rush into this - but will give it further though. I do not have the time available to do a MR. Am going to BUR on Dce 15/16th and home -MAN the following weekend so MR definitely not possible. I already have a DL Plat Amex

Since she might use UA more than DL, what *A status do you have, and if it is none, have you asked for a match to DL Gold?

Did not know that was possible. We both lost our Star Alliance status 3 years ago when we switched away from CO after many years to go to DL.
