wow. They really are trying to win New York. I wish they would issue waivers when my schedule changed.

If only DL behaved this way all of the time instead of their normal enhancements.

The school break changed due to Storm Sandy. So parents who purchased tickets thinking they would be off school would now either lose the money or have to have their children miss school. I don't see what choice they had, had they not done this could have been a lot of bad PR. Great business decision.

+1 on that. Delta does many things wrong recently (let's not start), but this one... for being on the side of the community

Grrr.... Inconsistencies...

I'm upset about this.

When Tsunami happened in Japan, my school group (for our travel to Japan Mar 24-April 6, 2011) were not granted a waiver from Delta. Our original flight plan took us to Osaka initially but our return flights would have been from Tokyo. Delta's official reply was "Sorry, all of our flights are operating" despite problems with local transit in Tokyo among other problems. It took my local congressman action after our original travel date before Delta would budge.

Now, delta is providing waiver, just to accommodate school break? No one is getting hurt or is placed in danger. It only impact personal vacation times. This is ridiculous!!

GRR....

I wonder if the "one time change" covers cancellations, or is it only for rescheduling the flights to destinations already planned. Interesting, because while I am not affected, a family I know had planned a trip to Dallas because some relatives from India would be visiting at that time in February. They were planning to just outright cancel plans because rescheduling didnt work for them, and yesterday they were calculating how much they would be out of pocket on account of the holiday schedule changed by the DOE.

Delta did wrong by you, but is doing the right thing now. That is upsetting to you? A wrong made right the second time should be a good thing, no?

I think this is the right business move 100%... if they didn't offer this they'd probably lose money during that break week because people simply wouldn't show up for flights and they'd leave empty or full of NRSA anyways.

Kudos to Delta for doing the right thing here.

Same Delta, Decision by United

Seeing United.com offering same waiver, I'm thinking it wasn't Delta that made the original decision. I think it's the competitive nature of business which is forcing Delta to be like United.

Delta is still probably the Delta we know..... 100% business minded with only a tiny inkling for customer service.

To my knowledge, they never issued a waiver for school schedule changes in Florida due to hurricane days.

I think Delta may actually have been the leader in announcing this first, but I see that now, UA, US and Jetblue have announced similar travel waivers.

Delta did offer a travel waiver for the earthquake/tsunami, as did every other airline during the operational impact. If you were on another airline, they would have told you the same thing as it was outside the operational disruption.

That being said, I would have gone to the airport and talked to a supervisor there to get the change. I find the airport agents more willing to bend rules than those over the phone.

Kudos to DL for this change.

What might be different here is that the days that are now school days were originally part of a week long break where the schools are closed. As Delta is probably aware there is significant travel around this school holiday, and many people made advance plans (try getting a reasonable ticket to FL around then). So it's not like they just added the days to the end of the school year in June; they added them during a traditionally heavy travel period.

It is a crazy week for the entire Northeast. I didn't grow up here (and wasn't accustomed to this concept of a week long break in February), so it still surprises me every year if I travel at the beginning of Presidents' Day weekend-- the airports here (including the club lounges) are completely mobbed by families. Actually a very unpleasant time to travel...
