I think your checkering bags go straight to destination, but they will make you go through a transfer security checkpoint, and scan your carryon
Do you have Sky Priority? If so, you'll be fine. If not, the line seemed long to me. They had 4 or 5 lines, but the x ray machine had a very short "landing" and people seemed slow to take out their computers and remove their coats (one at a time). US airports seem to have a larger landing so 2-3 people are unloading at the same time.

This is all very true, security at NRT can be kettle heaven. The lines often move slow but they do move. Presuming the OP is flying economy, IME the time from aircraft to clearing security is about 20-40 min, depending on how many aircraft are arriving at the time, how far back the seats are, and how fast the OP can walk to security.
In any case, 70 min is more than enough time but probably won't allow any time for shopping or lounge.

Assuming that this is a DL to DL connection at NRT, no problem. IME when the connection is especially tight, perhaps due to a delay, officials will direct you to a second faster security checkpoint with no other people/set up for this purpose.

Bingo. The officials there seem to be very aware of any flight delays and try to avoid people misconnecting. Your connection time is more than sufficient. I've seen them hold flights on more than one occasion when the incoming was late, so as not to strand a bunch of people in NRT.
I spent 40 mins in a security line last week connecting SIN-NRT-MSP. I made my flight but no time for the lounge. The security process there was really inefficient. Bag checks totally stopped the lines until complete.
Other transits have been real easy, so it really is hit or miss depending on how flights arrive.
As MSPeconomist says, they will pull people out of line when flights are tight. So you will make it, but it can be more stressful than it needs to be.
Wow thats unusual... my last SIN-NRT-JFK flight I zipped through security had over an hour to spend in the lounge, although the MSP flight is a tighter connection time

I've never needed more than 10 minutes to pass through security at NRT.

They have strong incentives to do this. A hotel room in Japan is expensive. Plus, since there usually is only one flight per day (and they're sometimes packed, so that it's tought to get a seat after IROPs), they can lose a lot of goodwill when someone misconnects. Folks are willing to accept NRT as a hub for Asian connections, but only if it's efficient, pleasant, and reliable.
