"She Doesn't Look Two Years Old to Me"

Kudos to the GA at ORD who turned away the 6 aunts and uncles who were trying to board with a six year old during Pre-boarding for the 3pm flight to JFK. The GA gave them the "two years old and under" lecture.

They really should change the preboard announcement to "all those needing extra time or those who have no ethics and think only of themselves may board now".

+1. I would also bet they were very distant aunts and uncles.

Stay tuned for the announcement of my next commercial venture....

"Rent-a-rugrat"

Yes, pre-boarding of "children" needs to stop well before puberty.

Also... I have, on a number of occasions, seen more than a few folks accompanying someone needing "special assistance" down the jetway.

As in Grandma Jones and the entire family reunion.

Next time the aunts and uncles will wise up and get wheelchairs so they can board early, then miraculously get 'cured' when they arrive at their destination. Wow, some people...

Every situation can be exemplified either by a Seinfeld episode or a Dilbert cartoon:

Note to self: need to investigate new business model for airport concessions that includes one-way walker and cane rentals.

There was a segment about this exact problem on an episode of "Come Fly With Me" that I watched last weekend.

On a flight from Dublin to Atlanta a couple of years ago, there was a couple who pre-boarded. The guy was wearing sunglasses and had a white cane and acting blind. Fair enough. Once everyone was boarded, the plane wasn't anywhere near as full as it looked online and everyone pretty much spread out. The man and his companion were one of the people to change their seats. Plane takes off and after we hit cruising altitude, the "blind" guy comes wandering back to his old seat looking for his hat. No companion. No cane to assist him. Not even straining to see which seat was his. Walked right to it and looked for his hat.

I would like to see pre-boarding to require a doctor's note for medical conditions but I'm pretty certain that would still get abused.

As for preboarding with children, it doesn't seem to work. When everyone else is finally allowed to board, they're still there holding up boarding.

I hope that there is a special place in Hades for this type of people. Taking advantage of the goodwill and humanity of others (including company policies) is low.

While I agree pre-boarding is being abused the GA should be careful about those types of comments. They actually have no authority to refuse boarding if they are boarding as part of the "those needing assistance call." Kinda like going up to someone who just parked in handicapped and saying "you don't look handicapped."

If you can't carry your child, they shouldn't qualify as "small children."

You can tell me I'm a jerk. I'm okay with that.

I will join your jerk club.

A couple of weeks ago at AMS they made a "people traveling with children" boarding announcement and a half a dozen people with 8-14 year olds jumped in line. Another passenger even questioned one of the adults who simply replied "I AM traveling with my child - so we're boarding". Poor teenage kid looked mortified.
