Sky Club Mass Chic Remodels: Worn Already
Has anyone else noticed how poorly the Sky Club remodels are holding up? So many of the beige chairs are stained and a lot of the upholstered furniture is already worn.
I applaud Delta's capital investment in modernizing the Sky Clubs, however its mass chic approach appears to have been poorly executed.
I didn't grab any photos last week. If someone else has some, please post.
A couple fo weeks ago, in ATL, I mentioned to one of the employees that there was a large, fresh stain...similar in appearance to several I've seen after college parties...on one of the few open chairs in the SC.
She walked over to the chair, looked at the stain, and flipped the cushion over.
This was my very first visit to a SC...I was thinking about getting an AMEX reserve...I won't be back.

The agent was ABSOLUTELY wrong to handle this in the manner she did. She forgot to charge you $35 for providing you a "Luxury Seat". After all, consumers are demanding them.

I agree. I think the materials used in old style DL and NW clubs held up better. Some of the new style "mass chic" clubs have only been open a year and have furniture that looks like it needs to be refreshed.
The SC furniture is horrible. I was just in the B terminal SC near B10. Chairs have basically no cushion and are soooo uncomfortable.
In the casual restaurant business those are known as "15 Minute seats" Which means you will be uncomfortable in 15 min, so you eat and go. Thus increasing the turn over of the seats (tables)

Don't see the correlation here.
I could understand the desire for quick turnover at casual dining establishments, but I don't see why Delta would intend to have a patron leave a Sky Club any faster than is necessary. It's not like a Sky Club member pays by the hour...you either have a pass or you don't.
Nothing chic or comfortable about the "new" lounges. Whoever designed them did not bother to look at who uses them. Probably the most business person unfriendly lounges around. They were done very cheaply and with very little thought. Most of the older lounges are in better shape then the new ones.

I find it hard to believe that the DTW Clubs are 10 years old, they look great. The same for the MSP C lounge

If people get uncomfortable and leave in half the time, Delta can sell (or give Amex) twice as many memberships for the same degree of crowding.

I sincerely doubt DL or Amex lose sleep regardless of whether the "degree of crowding" in any given club(s) goes up or down. They only care about the number of people accessing the club as a whole and spending extra $$$ at the "Luxury Bar".
