Don't enter SM number - still get any perks?

Howdy folks,

It's been a slow year, and I'm sitting at 74,000 MQMS as the year ends with one more TATL leg to fly - so about 3400miles.

Thinking about skipping credit on my that leg to get the 24K rollover (and probably get Platinum by May.)

I'm probably going to stick with DL/Skyteam anyway so that I get miles for the return flight in the new year, so I'm wondering the best way to work it.

E.g. Presumably I can still show my Plat card to use SP Check-in.
But can I bring my boarding pass and Plat card to get into the lounge?

I assume I can't get EC seats with out paying, right? And I'd miss a chance for any Op-Ups?

Oh.. almost forgot baggage allowance. Still get one free bag, right?

Any other thoughts? Anything else I'm missing?

Thanks!
And happy thanksgiving.
Any input much appreciated.

I believe you can use the Plat card to use SP check in, but beyond that i dont think you can get any perks.

This should be easy. Just credit to a different ST member (FB?) for that flight which you want to "skip".

Before boarding, switch out the programs/numbers. Used to work for me when I was still crediting SQ.

You mean, get the seat assignment, use the lounge and then as you're heading to board, stop and ask them to change it then?

Wouldn't you lose EC? Did you get to keep your seat assignment?

The more I think about it - You get lounge access because you are a STE+ flying ST flights... just because it's not in the PNR, doesn't mean that I'm not still E+...right?

You would keep whatever seats that you had previously selected.

Unless there was an equipment change. If the OP's status in the system was not shown, they'd likely end up with regular Y seats vice EC.

I don't think you will lose your EC seats unless there is an equipment change. But if you put your SM number into the reservation for the outbound, there is no way DL will be able to take it out for the return. Basically you will get miles for both segments or neither segment. You might open an AS account to get the miles credited somewhere.

I think the equipment change risk is fair enough and I'm happy to take that.

FTI, I'm actually doing the reverse. I don't want credit on the outbound and then will add it before the return - are you saying if I put in another number I can't change it for the return?

I don't remember the last time I tried to do it, but that doesn't sound right. I'm pretty sure I've been able to split it before in the past.

There's a reason to leave it blank...

Pretty sure I have a FB card sitting around here something. I'll just use that.

Thanks all.

I have found that once you check in for the outbound that DL cant change the number or take it out.

If you plan on no number on the OB and entering it for the return my fear is that even delaying the entry until after you fly the OB Delta might give you credit in both directions anyway. I am not sure on that but I would not want to test it if I really didnt want the miles in both directions.

That's interesting.

Does anyone have any experience with this?
Or any staff know for sure?

Would adding an SM number to a return leg automatically credit the outbound as well?

That would be annoying.

Considering how many times people call in saying they had forgotten their SM number, and asking for retro credit, yes it will be for the whole ticket....

if the 24k rollover is the most important thing then I'd just fly as normal on this one trip. Is clicking over to Platinum and starting over at zero next year more or less desirable than having a USB port? Get an exit row and you'd have more leg room and less worries.

If you haven't bought the tickets yet you could pay a bit extra and do two one ways.

I had a friend sign up for skymiles mid trip, entered his SM number after flying the OB and was automatically credited for all flights in the reservation. Dont take any chances if you really want rollover. Just play it safe.

I have tried to change my Skymiles number on a return leg and was told that it was not possible since it was already used for the outbound portion. This was about 2 years ago.
