ORD Connection - DL DOM to KLM Intl

As the title states, next week I have a connection from a DL Domestic flight (ATL-ORD) to a KLM international flight (ORD-AMS) with 1h41m in between. Is this enough time or am I cutting it too close?

Published MCT (minimum connect time) is 1 hr 15 min for DL-KL Dom-Int connections at ORD. You will have a T2 to T5 transfer. There's a nice train that offers this service - it is however landside - you will have to exit security at T2, take the train to T5, and reclear security.

Can it be done? Sure - if your inbound is on time.

mnbp: Was afraid of hearing something like that. Without a resounding "Yes you will have no issues" I think I'm forced to SDC to an earlier flight and give up a confirmed UG. Perhaps I'll get a BFUG for the new flight.

dave: THANKS! Super excited and will let you know how it goes.

It's enough time, but it's ORD. It's got all the hassles of ATL without the airside connection.

I keep kind of a mental list of things when I decide if I'll take a connection in ORD. If the first leg is on a regional jet, that's one strike. Regionals get bumped out of position for mainline all the time. If there's a terminal change, that's another strike. If there aren't alternative route to the final destination in case of misconnect that's a strike.

My tolerance on a MCT + 25 minutes would be one strike.

You and I keep going on the same MRs! I'll be in IST next weekend if you'll be there. I made my ORD connection 2 hrs DOM-DOM.

You can't SDC at the beginning of an international itinerary (unless there are IROPs, etc.)

Good eye MSP! I just about had a heart attack when I read your post but then I remembered I booked these as separate PNRs. :-)

He's on the CHI/IST MR fare, so, he's likely on 2 separate tix.

Two years ago this past Tuesday, I had a flight from MSP to AMS connecting in ORD with Delta to KLM (in Business Class). Originally I was to have a 4 hour layover in ORD, but because of a severe snow storm we were delayed leaving MSP and then when we landed in ORD we sat for a while on the tarmac before pulling up to the gate. This left me with 40 minutes to go from Domestic, out of security, to the train, into International Terminal and to the gate --- they had closed the gate just 5 minutes prior to my arrival.

What really irritated me about my experience was that through the whole thing, none of the Delta agents I talked to would call ahead and tell them that I was coming!! Maybe I'm having a DYKWIA moment, but waiting a few minutes for a paying customer on a flight that leaves only once a day is better than the headache that could pursue..

Fortunately, I was able to be quickly rebooked on the Air France flight to Paris and then on to AMS.
