Today, flying from MCI to SLC on a Skywest CRJ700, I flew with my hip pack or fanny pack or whatever you want to call it around my waist. I have done this on at least 300 or more flights and I have never had a problem until today, although it is really not a problem.
When we are ready to land, the FA tells me that my pack is sitting on top of the seat belt, blocking it, and causing a safety issue. She asked me to remove it and I did. I am not making a complaint or anything else to Delta, and I do not want any miles over this, but have you guys heard of anything like that happening before? After all, I did wear the pack over the belt on the takeoff and the FA said nothing.

I can imagine that if the fanny pack or whatever is worn over your seatbelt, it could be difficult to unfasten the seatbelt quickly and exit the aircraft in an emergency. So the rule seems to make sense in addition to the reason given above about the FA being unable to see whether your seatbelt if fastened.

What about the person whose gut sags over and six inches below his/her belt buckle?
Will he/she be asked to remove it and store it in the overheads or below the seat in front of him/her?
