Riddle me this...Delta doesn't offer seats for sale or upgrade???

I totally understand that Delta wants to sell seats instead of upgrading and I have no problem with that but I do have a problem when I cannot even PURCHASE a BE ticket, when there are 30 unsold BE seats on a flight!!! I have my normal LAX-ATL Flt 16 on 11/25/12. I'm on a K ticket with a SWU (uncleared) and I tried to also use a Sky Bonus Upgrade, but can't. Out of the 45 BE seats, there are 30 still unsold...and here's the kicker...YOU CAN'T EVEN GO ONLINE AND BUY THEM!!!!!! If they don't want to sell them and they aren't upgrading their SWUs, then what are they doing with them? Maybe waiting until the last minute and trying to sell them at a higher rate????? So confused!!!

Would love a DL rep response.

Using a seat map as a proxy for unsold seats is an unforgivable rookie mistake.

EF is showing J0 on this flight. I agree that's very odd.

Curious, I would think as a DM on a K fare you shouldn't need a SWU for this flight given the large # of J seats generally available. As a PM I've never NOT been upgraded on this flt. Perhaps I'm lucky?

Sunday after Thanksgiving will probably be a brutal battlefield for UGs on this one, so not surprised he's trying to use a SWU to ensure he gets up front.

Ah didn't realize. Yes American Thanksgiving... maybe they are all sold already? It's a great flight!

It is very simple....that flight comes from SYD. You can book a Biz class from SYD to ATL on DL16 on 11/25 for about 10k. The sunday after turkey day is one of the busiest travel days of the year. Why would they sell LAX-ATL for a few hundred dollars and cut into possibly selling a 10k dollar ticket all the way?

And by the way, there are 30 seats open in front, but only 17 in back. I am guessing this will get booked up as the day gets closer.

This was given to me by the DM desk, not the seat map.

I would too but I missed the upgrade by 2 on Sunday on this flight on a K ticket WITH a SWU.

Also it would be an "unforgivable rookie mistake" to think that just because there are no seats AVAILABLE on EF that they are sold.

My thoughts are exactly the opposite. There are probably many more people that fly transcon for the holidays than intercon.

The flight from SYD is overbooked already. The leg from LAX is not. Of course, there is only that 1 flight from SYD and many LAX-ATL flights, but an airline will protect the connection pricing. They make a lot more money on the international flying than they do the domestic.

This way of thinking doesn't even make sense. If the flight WAS oversold, then that would make my case even stronger. Does Delta think these SYD-LAX pax are waiting to make their connection reservations???? I would argue that close to 99% of people make their reservations at one time. Most people who would be connecting in LAX to go to ATL would be Intercon pax, who are not usually going to book their trip 2 weeks out. BTW, The flight is actually not oversold. Just on EF there are 21 open BE seats (SYD-LAX) and 6 left in coach.

I am probably noticing something similar for DTW->NGO for this Friday. No BE seats for sale but plenty of Y seats. I am already planning on bringing my butt pad cause the chances for an op-up are pretty much nil.

I'd love if you could explain your thinking here - if the flight was/is oversold from SYD-LAX, how does that effect the LAX-ATL leg? You think people on the SYD-LAX flight are going to book ongoing connections to ATL between now and the flight leaving?

Whats happening in ATL? Sorry, i don't get it PLEASE elaborate...
