Specific SDC for short 20 minute connection

So I'm doing a little small MR here during thanksgiving day itself - but I have a 20 minute connection DTW-RDU-ATL-BNA, and I was wondering if SDC will allow me to switch RDU to JFK.

I'm afraid of being stranded since it's the last flight out of RDU that afternoon, and being stuck in JFK means more options for creativity.

Depends on the fares you purchased. Is this a DTW-BNA fare, or is there a fare break? Is JFK allowed in the fare rules? Are you within the MPM?

I think the OP is asking can they go DTW-JFK-ATL-BNA or something like that, which should be allowed. You obviously cannot change your desination, but you can change your connection point.

I am assuming that you have a split fare (my best guess would be DTW/RDU and RDU/BNA), since that routing seems unrealistic for a single DTW/BNA fare. KVS confirms that most discounted DTW/BNA fares require nonstop travel; even the most generous routing rules (on the full F fare) do not permit a transfer in RDU.

If my assumption is correct, that is your first fare is DTW/RDU, you will have to route through Raleigh. Some DTW/RDU fares permit a connection, so you could route DTW-JFK-RDU-ATL-BNA, but you definitely would not be able to drop RDU as a connection point unless an agent bends the rules for you.

To figure out how your fare is split, check your receipt on delta.com and examine your fare bases. You could then use expertflyer's historical fare search and view the routing rules.

Actually, haha, it's BUF-DTW-RDU-ATL-BNA, and I think the fare break occurs at RDU. That becomes difficult, doesn't it?

I can't imagine a 20 minute connection is legal. Did it start out that way or did you have a schedule change? A schedule change might allow you more leeway to get what you want.

MCT at RDU is 20 minutes for DL-DL. I've been ticketed for a 23 minute transfer over RDU in the past, and completed travel without issue. 20 minutes doesn't seem unreasonable if the inbound is on time.

[KVS Availability Tool 7.0.7.R3 - Reference: Minimum Connection Time [MCT]: RDU/DL-DL]
Code:
                                               DD DI ID II
STANDARD: RDU 030 060 120 060
DL-DL ONLINE RDU 020 --- --- ---
**END OF DISPLAY**
To the OP, it may still be worth asking an agent; some will be willing to reroute you against your fare rules, although it is certainly against protocol.

Wow... Never seen a 20 minute MCT. A trivial delay or a seat in back of the plane and you're hosed...

i believe i've done a 20 min mct in memphis, i missed the flight - but i got more miles in the end. BUT this flight at RDU would be the last one of the day, and I really am not interested in spending my holiday alone in RDU

This would technically not be allowed. But I imagine that if you asked nicely at the airport, an agent would see the 20 minute connection and be willing to bend the rules, particularly if you have status.

I really do not understand these type of responses. I routinely change connecting airports, add connecting flights through sdc. One of my usuals is the dtw to bna where I many times take a simple non stop and change to dtw-insert city cmh/cle/day/myr etc atl-bna and always just pay airport tax additions.:

IIRC PMNW MCT at MEM was 25 minutes, for NW-NW, domestic-domestic, and it worked.
