It's a choice of $4000 plus miles to upgrade but earn 150% miles versus 250,000 miles and earn no redeemable miles or MQMs on the trip, assuming that the rates are $4000 per person for M and 250,000 per person for the award ticket. You could also do one of each if one person needs the MQMs.
