Are Delta's Weber 5751 slimline's terrible seats? (Standard Y seat with AVOD)
DL is aggressivly retrofitting aircraft (a good thing) with the Weber 5751 slimline seat as their standard Y seat, now found in the domestic 767's, 777's, 737's, and some 757's. I have found this seat to be extremely uncomfortable, with a very hard bottom. The ergonomics of the seat are akin to sitting on a brick, with a hard bottom and no shaping. People probably think I'm weird for it, but I always ask people sitting near me what they think of the seats, and the response is always the same, that they are terrible.
The B/E Aerospace seats in Delta's A330 are awesome, as well as the seats in the MD-90's. The older seats in the 300ER's and the 744's aren't bad either.
Why does Delta insist on replacing good, comfortable seats with the Weber 5751? I understand the fact that works well with the Panasonic eFX AVOD they are installing, but that can be used with the MUCH better B/E Aerospace seats.
What do others think?

I agree -- the Weber 5751s are rock hard. However, I disagree on your opinion of the MD-90 seats. I think those are also rock hard. I like the MD-88 seats (though the recline on those could be better), and the seats on the PMDL 757s with 24 F seats and 26 F seats. BTW, the 764s don't have the Weber 5751. They still have the good (comfortable) seats.

I don't usually complain about Delta coach seats, but when I do, I single out the 737-800 exit rows.
Stay uncomfortable, my friends.
(seriously, what is the deal with them? they're dramatically harder than the normal seats, which aren't that fabulous to begin with.)

Totally agreed on the 738 exit row. Particularly the window seats.
I've gotten used to the Weber 5751 seats, though I would prefer it if they switched to something less bench-like. Something with winged headrests would be amazing. Actually, just adding winged headrests to the Weber 5751 would make them much better.

I think the bottom (!) line is that those seats are much lighter compared to previous seats and thus allow for weight/fuel savings.

The cushioning on the seat can be a minor future modification, so its not impossible to fix this in the future and/or on upcoming deliveries. Perhaps the cushioning was chosen independent of the leather cover, and the current combination may in fact be too stiff.
DL wouldn't replace the seats were it not about economics - namely the dead weight of the old seats, wasted seat pitch, and perhaps maintenance concerns.

One can start a new thread or complain directly to Delta. I made my choice.

I actually find them to be surprisingly comfortable. I don't see why so many are complaining about them. Maybe the new B/E Aerospace Pinnacle seats that are planned for the A330s might be better for some.
FYI, AA is using the same model on their new config 738s and 752s.

Why all the hatred towards DL's Weber 5751 Y seats?
It seems that DL's Weber 5751 Y seats get criticized more than any other Y seat in the world. AA also has Weber 5751s on their new config 738s and 752s, however, they never get the criticism that DL's seats do.
Why the criticism has to be isolated to DL's Weber 5751s? Perhaps the real reason that DL is switching to the B/E Aerospace Pinnacle on the A330s is to avoid alienating those who love the existing A330 Y seats (B/E Aerospace Spectrum) by sticking to the same manufacturer as the existing seats.

There's a thread from a week ago on this topic.
