Do L Class tickets earn miles?

I know they don't on partners but I didn't see a specific exclusion for DL flights.

Looking to go SJC-LAX-SYD and back. The SJC-LAX are L fares.

I think the LAX-SYD are T and U fares.

Two part answer, but most likely yes to both:

On the MQ (American Eagle) segments (SJC-LAX-SJC), just make sure you have booked the DL Codeshare and you should be fine, although save your Boarding Passes as some have reported having to work for their MQ miles. The very same flight flown on its AA codeshare will get you zero SMs, although in that case you could just credit to an AAdvantage account.

All non-award fares, at least from non-opaque channels, operated on DL metal with a DL flight number (the LAX-SYD-LAX flights) will earn credit into a DL SkyMiles account at a minimum of 100%. So, your L, U, and T fares will earn credit into a SM account.

Thanks.

On both ITA and delta.com, the SJC-LAX segments have a DL flight number, so I didn't realize they were American Eagle.

Will there be problems carrying on a roller on that short flight which would fit in the overhead bins without any problems on the long-haul (747) flight?

Possibly, you might want to visit this thread for some input from fellow FTers: Size of carry-on in overhead on Embraer RJ140 (ERD)

Also, your long haul will be on a Triple 7, not a 747.

Hmm, sounds like some European short-hauls I've been on, where they collect your carry-on before you board and return it to you after you de-plane.

Well the other option would be to take Southwest. Heard their overhead bins are big enough. But their schedules result in more time at LAX.

I guess DL doesn't generate enough traffic on their LAX-SY
D flights. Qantas is flying A380 but their prices are at least 50% higher.
