Pax disembarked because of rat in the plane?

JFK to LHR yesterday 2100h apparently all boarded and pax spotted rat dart accross cabin so plane had to be disembarked and fumigated. Rat not found. Pax put in other plane. Does anyone know if that plane flew out today?

Seems dumb to me...why can't the plane fly with rats in it? Seems like you should fumigate it eventually...but to delay the whole flight while you find another plane seems unnecessary.

An extreme example but...

Experts said that mice could spread more than 35 fatal viruses, including plague spot and ship fever. In addition, they might bite circuits of the plane, and cause deadly accidents.

It could be a safety risk - rats often chew on electric wires and could cause havoc if they find the right place. When they couldnt find the rat they disembarked. I suppose maybe airlines fly with rats in them all the time but when pax see the rat and complain then difficult to ignore.

Glad to see Mickey getting out of MCO. I guess Mickey wants to see the Patriots vs Bucs this weekend.

I have always heard the chewing risk (on wires, not people) is why rodents can ground a flight.

Maybe, but Mickey will have to endure a very lopsided game. London is awesome, and I love the Bucs, but this is not the year to watch them play across the pond.

Hmmm...interesting. Maybe the Bucs got the game because the Glaziers also own Manchester United. Lol....one team in the penthouse....and one in the outhouse.

Aside from the chewing of wires issue, I'd presume that there's many regulations about knowingly transporting live animals between soveriegn countries (as the OP was flying JFK-LHR).

Reminds me of the time about a year or so ago, I was sitting on the floor in MSP waiting on my NW MSP-ATL flight and I saw no less than 6 mice running around the floor. I could easily see how they can get on a plane when there are so many running around the concourses.

The solution is simple: Get the "Rats on a Plane" together with Samuel L Jackson's "Snakes on a Plane" and the problem is solved...

The wires are one problem, but so is the fact most countries don't allow animals to be transported between them without being quarantined.

Actually its a union issue.. the longshoreman's union strictly forbids unauthorized crew on the flights...

p.s. yes.. it is a joke...

Well this is certainly a true story and is reported in the UK press...

Apparently the pilot refused to fly the plane because he was concerned about safety.
