But think of all the interest they have generated by stamping our bookings with double Medallion miles, instructing their staff to read off an enticing promo (but it's not official yet), and all without any public announcement!
They must want to be keeping a certain air of uncertainty while we eagerly await for the holy word to come down from the Deltalina of the Sky.
Actually it's probably bad for business to do this. Customers are probably holding out on booking a lot of trips (lower revenue for them during the waiting period). If it doesn't happen, a lot of people are going to be pissed off. There is no upside for DL to intentionally spread this rumor.

How many customers do you really think are aware of the DMQM rumor and are holding out on booking lots of trips?

The buying pattern of people who are not aware of the rumor are unaffected by the rumor one way or another. So what do they have anything to do with what I said?
Trying to book on delta.com. Just before purchasing I look where the MQMs are usually disclosed and all I see is "SkyMiles and MQM data for this itinerary are currently unavailable. "
I was thinking of a MR but I will hold off until the data is currently available.
Don't you mean: "...until the datum is currently available."
How do we have a thread with the word "confirmed" in it when it clearly is not? I have 6 TPACS left this year so if they do this I will be Diamond for the next 3 years. That would be an incredibly stupid move on DL's part with roll-over now in place.Actually, I suspect they will start to target most DMQM promos to sub Plat or even sub Gold members going forward. One good year of flying can result in Diamond status for several years with NO flying. Just the free club privileges would be a loser for DL. There are a lot of discussions here about the fact that DL is a for-profit company and they need to make money. I can see a bunch of areas where DMQM's at a certain level are more harmful to DL's balance sheet than allowing upgrades from lower biz fares.

How would Delta giving free club privileges to someone who does not fly be a loser? If he doesn't fly, he is not in the airport to go into the club.
I can be at the airport flying someone else and using the club weekly. The problem with the roll-over is if you lock diamond for 2 or 3 years then you are free to go fly someone else and get status or fly very little and be rewarded with the perks and cost associated with someone flying 125K per year for 2 or three years. One could fly just short haul domestic on DL and use the club (valued at $350?) for 3 years and give DL very little return on the perk. I just think it drives the opposite behaviour the AL would want.
Edit to add: Not to mention if they continue to do soft landings like some here have said you could get 4 years of perks for one good year of flying.
One good year of business travel and all of the double-triple-quadrupal MQMs and you can fly guaranteed First class for all of your personal travel for $200-$300 (or less) for 3-4 years PLUS free club member ship the entire time and you can also make someone else GOLD.. This is getting better the more I think about it.
So DL gives up:
3-4 years of Club membership
3-4 years of GOLD status to ANOTHER person who did not have to fly once or get a CC
3-4 years of FIRST CLASS tickets at the lowest possible coach fares (Diamonds will be almost guaranteed an UG)
All of the upgrades that the free Gold give-away gets.
Discounted club membership for the 3-4 years for the gifted Gold.
etc....
Wow.

I guess that I am running into the problem that I have long had on FT. I can not understand why so many FTers want status on multiple airlines.
The only purpose in having status is to use it. If I am PM on Delta, why should I fly on US or AA and not get any of the advantages of being PM? True, if I flew them often enough I would eventually reach top status with them also, but in the meantime I would be taking a lot of non-status flights.
(Ironically, I will get my PM status in November and very likely have little or no use for it before it expires in 2/11. At the most, I will be making one flight to the US during that time. Other than that, I will only get to sit in lounges when I fly AZ to Milan or AF to Paris.)

For me it is not as much status on several airlines as it is the ability to get all of the perks of flying 125k a year and only fly, say 30 or 50k a year. So if I have a good year of travel and DL continues to give away MQM's at the rate they have been I will have perks for 3 years that many others who just make 125k will only have for one. If you are Joe anybody who does not pay attention to these things like we do on FT you may not take advantage of all of the MQM give-away deals and end up struggling just to get to Plat when I could turn that spend into Diamond for several years.
To add a little real life math:
5 trips BOS-SIN at the triple MQM deal = 375,000 MQM for a total spend of $4,000 ($800 per trip)
That is Diamond for 3.5 years.
For the poor guy who flies domestically, to get the same benefits without the promo miles would be:
5k mqm per Trans-con @ $400.00 = 75 trips or $30,000!
There is a $26,000 dollar difference in what it takes to get the same benefits without the promos. Even worse for the short hauler....much worse.
