I received 5k MQM's from this gift and I am a PM based out of SLC. I know of others FO/GM who received either 10k or 15k and this is the response I got from Delta...
"With respect to this particular gift, we did vary the amount almost exclusively based on the customer’s ability to choose Delta. For example, as a customer out of Salt Lake City, there are many nonstop options that are offered to you on Delta to cities both North, South, East and West, and thus to some degree, it is slightly easier for you to be able to participate in Delta’s program and to earn elite-qualifying miles. This compares to someone who might live in Houston for example, a Continental hub, where Delta’s ability to carry this customer is limited to our hubs and then connecting beyond. The intent here is to not diminish or be unappreciative of your ability to choose and loyalty toward Delta, but basically to ensure that a slightly higher incentive is given to the customer who actually has to go out of their way to choose Delta."
I can completely understand this policy, despite how frustrating it might seem to some!

07 Jul 2009 9M GIFT MQM 10 0 0 0 10000
I recieved 10,000, even though I have never actually flown on Delta metal in my entire life. I had around 11,000 EQM miles credited to DL when I flew Alitalia in May - otherwise, nada.
Thank you, Delta. First a soft landing, and now this?
4,000 miles away from Silver Medallion thorugh 2011

Wow, I was surprised that Delta actually gave you this very logical explanation.

It makes sense. My home airport is FLL and I have been PM for several years. I can choose non-stops to many destinations but still connect in SLC or ATL for many itins. That would explain why I got 15K MQMs. A buddy of mine has many connecting itins and he too got 15K and a he's newly minted PM. I have lost non-stops to LAS and BOS in the last year (year & 1/2) as well as reduced non-stops to LAX.

We are regulars on the FLL-NYC routes and both of those locations give us plenty of choices of carriers. brit44s post certainly goes a long way to explaining why we were both on the 15K list.
My wife and I have flown the exact same itineraries this year and recently both got to FO again. She had the 10K gift post a week or so ago but no dice for me. Anyone had any experience or success calling in to ask for the bonus gift, given that I should have "qualified" based on identical travel pattern, geography. I know...looking a gift horse in the mouth, etc. but, hey, me wants more miles.
