Int'l BE Upgrades for 1 mile

Just got this in my email. Seems to have the same conditions as PMU's - has to be YBM class fare.

Dear Mr. Bearcat74,

We're so convinced that you'll love our BusinessElite® service, that we're offering a one-way international upgrade for only one mile.

You can now upgrade to our award-winning BusinessElite cabin for one mile each way when you fly internationally on a paid Y, B or M Economy fare between June 30 and September 15, 2009.

Availability is limited for these premium seats, so hurry! Call Delta Reservations at 1-800-323-2323, or the phone number listed on the back of your SkyMiles® membership card, now through July 13th to confirm your upgrade, or to purchase a ticket and take advantage of this fantastic offer. Be sure to provide your SkyMiles account number and PIN when prompted.

Then sit back, relax and enjoy our full range of premium BusinessElite products for a comfortable, relaxed and productive in-flight experience.

Terms & Conditions
Eligible Fares/Booking: All taxes, fees and blackout dates are governed by the rules of the Y, B or M economy class fare purchased. Additional upgrade tax may apply. I got it too obviously about the same time as you.

Looks like they are doing a little experimenting. Greatly diminishes the value of a PMU.

Make sure to check the competition first. Some of the flights I was checking out TATL were still cheaper on CO with a straight up paid J ticket. In case of IROPS you don't risk getting bumped to Y with a 2 mile refund as your only consolation.

That was my first thought as well.

Would be nice to get a similar e-mail directed to PMs allowing usage of the PMU during the same promotional time frame on H fares.

Well eff that (in a way). I just blew 50K on Thursday to upgrade (didn't have a PMU on hand so they pulled them). Calling in for a redeposit. Not going to burn my PMU's on the RT, will spend the 1 mile AND then use that for a domestic K+ fare.

Same offer went out on the NW side this morning. I agree, this supports my feeling that they should come up with a way to make HKQ upgradable. They're clearly not getting enough revenue from the int'l front cabin this summer.

I have a reservation currently being held in Z, up from B. When I upgraded, the res agent told me the miles would be deducted at the airport when I check in, so they're still in my account. I'm going to call right now and ask to be sure they will take only 1 mile instead of 25,000. Will edit to let you know how it turns out.

Edit:
The agent I spoke to said that since they will deduct the miles from the account at the airport, all she needed to do was to put in "documentation" that I was using the one-mile upgrade, so that they'll know to take out only 1 mile at the airport. That makes me a little nervous, but I'll let you know how it turns out.

Good Grief!!

I finally think I have gotten a goodie in my bag by being able to use some PMUs to BKK, and it turns into ROCK candy!

DL made me process my PMUs in advance for tomorrows flights, because the TPAC legs were on NW metal.

I'm just not feeling the love anymore.

Back to the pumpkin patch!

Greatly diminishes the value of PMUs. More importantly, I already have Z flights booked using PMUs to go to and from Shanghai in July. I did not turn in my PMUs yet. Do you think DL will let me switch to using 2 miles for the roundtrip?

Yes, just call SMS.

As was said, make sure you check the straight J class fares. I spent the weekend examining open-jaw fares between DC and Scandinavia for a Baltics vacation in August. I had Y tickets, but because DL discontinued service to ARN, I had to start over. I debated using miles for J Class, buying an M ticket and upgrading, or just buying the cheapest Y fare.

I quickly discovered that J class fares had dropped so much that there was practically no difference between J and an upgradeable M fare. In the end, I chose the cheap Y fare, and am saving my miles for a longer, more costly trip.

The SMS agent that I talked with said that I was her 3rd call to swap something up (take out a PMU or miles) and add an upgrade for 1 mile each way.

She said the agent next to her had ALREADY handled 5 upgrades of M+ using this promo (these were NEW BOOKINGS)!

This could be an interesting promo.

Is this another targeted offer?
I did not receive this one (or any other for that matter)
