This is exactly the case for my wifes account. I opened a NW account for her 4-5 months ago, enrolled her in Worldperks University, then linked the account to her Delta account (with no activity except a magazine subscription). She received 2-500 mile link bonuses and the 1 mile posting , I however have flight activity every week and I did not get the 1 mile posting but did get the 2-500 mile bonuses for linking.

Yes. You'll get the linking bonus (I'm not sure if the current bonus is 500 or 1000). You can get a quick and easy 400 Worldperks miles through Worldperks University.
Did it.
Now, all I have to do is wait for 3 - 4 weeks (as noted on the Worldperks University page) for the NWA computer to tell the NWA computer to credit the mileages to the account on the NWA computer. LOL

WorldPerks university miles, in my experience, post pretty much instantly. (I did this most recently with a family member's new NW account in March or April.)

Actually, they posted within an hour.
I was just having a good laugh at the fact that NWA felt compelled to protect themselves by including the caveat that it might take 3 to 4 weeks for the miles to post.
Now I need to find out if there is some minimum time interval where I must let the new miles "age" in my wife's new NWA account before transferring them to DL, in hopes of getting the 1 mile renewal bonus indulgence from DL.
I transferred the 1 mile out of DL and into NW before they attempt to take it back
Does this mean you now have zero in your DL account, so they can not take the 1 mile back? I gies they could mpove the one mile bcak and then take it out.
Has anyone ever seen a negative - balance in their account?
My Delta account shows 1 mile posted for Expiration Extension for April 29th (posted May 29th). It is a flight mile, not a bonus miles. Very nice of them. I assume you all got this, so no need for a zillion posts saying I got mine.
I wonder: The time line for the merger of Delta and NWA does not specifically mention when the two miles programs will be merged, but it sort of seems that it might happen around October of this year. I wonder if a transfer of one mile from NWA to Delta just before the merge would extend the expiration of miles date. Any hard info on this?
The transfer won't do anything for you. I've confirmed this by trying and also calling CS to complain about it the transfer's uselessness when it comes to extending the expiration date.
I promtly transferred all my miles to my NWA account, it just feels safer there without expiration dates and out of the evil hands of Delta Airlines. At least for now pre-miles merger they are safe.
I received the mile and extension on my account as well, but still don't understand why this occurred.
In most program any type of transaction will extend the expiration, but I gather that isn't the case with DL? I had several bonuses post earlier this year (i.e. email bonus, survey bonus, mall bonus) and none appeared to trigger an extension.
Probably the whole thread is in the wrong forum...
The terms and conditions of the Delta link accounts page have changed. This may be the reason for the gift mile:

The linking of a WorldPerks and SkyMiles account will extend the mileage expiration date on which your miles expire in your SkyMiles account. The SkyMiles account expiration date will be updated 4-5 weeks after SkyMiles and WorldPerks accounts are linked.

Delta miles were for life too. Then they changed the rules.
What makes us think it will be any different for NW?
I think they will give a year or two to use these up and then it will be either devalued or reset to a new expiration date.
