2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season
I have been asked to start this again. I know there are some people that think this is off topic for this forum...and it is kind of. However, the purpose of this thread is the consolidate all hurricane related posts that may occur throughout the season in one spot. Otherwise, we end up with a lot of different threads because Delta seems to be more affected because of the routes they cover than other airlines.
The season started on June 1 but TD-1 has already formed off the east coast of the US. It is now losing tropical characteristics and should not become a tropical storm. No further upgrades are planned from the National Hurricane Center.
My official pre-season prediction is for 14 named storms, 9 hurricanes, and 3 major hurricanes.

I guess if there are going to be hurricanes, we might as well let indufan sound the alarm. I like the stormpulse thing but my old favorite is at http://vortex.plymouth.edu/tropical.html
It really is a matter of what you are accustomed to using since all of them have basically the same information.

I don't think we will ever see 16 and 17.
TODAY is the official start of the 2009 Atlantic Hurricane Season. Good luck to our FlyerTalk members who live in coastal areas and those visiting such places.
All is relatively quiet on the Western (err Eastern) front.

It's hardly worth mentioning but NHC is tracking an area of low pressure NNE of the AZORES that has a slight chance of becoming a sub-tropical storm for a short while before it moves farther northward over even cooler waters.
I am slightly interested if this causes some ETOPS issues as I think that the Azores are one of the primary diversion points for middle TATL traffic. This is where AirTranSat 236 glided into after it ran out of fuel.
i've watched this thread off and on for the last 2 seasons as i'm on pager duty off and on to ensure that the site hs the most up to date information on it regarding the rebooking waivers, etc.

Glad we could help a little bit. This most recent low won't require any rebooking waivers, IMHO.

It's a little too far away to do anything with the surf in Florida. Besides, it's just a lousy low that has a small chance of becoming an inferior sub-tropical storm.
