Poor Jeff Robertson -- there goes his effort to fight off "undesirable" Platinums, Golds and Silvers who supposedly cost DL more than they are worth to DL.
Kohoutek didn't research what you're talkin' about, GUWonder, but I enjoy your humor!
There are three groups the
"I am going to spend all kinds of money for some reason just because I get more miles"
The
"I am going to fly Delta until I get status and then take my cash and go elsewhere"
The
"I don't like Delta and just came on here to give me another chance to point that out group"
So... If I were Delta I have to find out if Group one is REALLY going to spend enough money to make this work. Because Group 2 is costing them money if they do this and Group 3 doesn't count.
Now since airlines are lousy at "resisting the tempation" my bet's on they "give in" and then discover that the Group 1 was not quite as big or as happy as they think.
The other side of this is how many of thier flyers live in cities where the fact that AA, UA etc matched makes no difference. I live in ATL. Yes I COULD fly some of these other airlines, but I have to connect etc so I am not going to do that. (My milage "greed" does not extend to an extra 8 hours in DFW for example LOL!)

I think you are right. Not that anyone really cases, but I'm a bit of a subset of 2. I would keep flying DL beyond 75K, if I wasn't concerned that DL was diluting the ranks of elites much more than it already has. I'm comfortable where the levels are now. Since there was a 2X last year and basically all the other airlines followed DL, if DL follows the others this year it is basically status quo. No promo is good for me (fewer elites) and a 3X multiplier will greatly increase the elite levels. Obviously I didn't factor in the economy, but since I don't have any real data related to flight patterns, and would just be speculating, I conveniently ignored that input.
Continental has now joined in on the DEQM parade. DL is the only major carrier not currently offering it. I say we'll see it by Monday at the latest.
Poor, poor Jeff Robertson still mulling it over after all this time and then that time too? As said earlier, here goes his effort to fight off "undesirable" Platinums, Golds and Silvers who supposedly cost DL more than they are worth to DL.
I look forward to the 37.5k (or less) BIS Platinums being given out with status validity thru the end of February 2011.

I certainly hope so. I'm flying ATL-MXP-ATL next weekend, so it would be nice if they match CO's program and have previously booked flights be eligible for double MQM's....19,020 sounds better than 9,510 to me. Also flying ATL-LAS-ATL in the weekend after The Masters ($184 all-in would be 2.633 cpmqm).
Stop holding your breath, GoCanes, it's a no-brainer.
The only question left is if Delta goes the CO route (includes already-bought reservations) or the AA/UA route (only new itineraries).
If it's CO's route, I'm gone after May 3 and will have 8 months to make 1K. No reason to stick around with Delta if I'm sitting at about 85,000 MQMs by May 3.

See, im in the same boat. If they go the CO route, I'm gonna be at 140,000 MQMs by mid-May and thats probably gonna be enough to get me over to UA to give them a shot at status.
Will someone correct me if im wrong though, couldn't one just do a status match over to UA (or AA for that matter...hell, now even CO for that matter) and enjoy flying under this promo with status already, and, essentially, just be building up a nice cushion? (Or, does UA only allow a High status-Mid Status match, in which case the DEQM promo they are running would allow one to secure 1k?)
Programs: DL PM, RW, CRC. Platinum and Gold are ok, but I prefer Limestone and Marble.

DL has all the statistics on their DMQM results last year, I'm sure they have three people sitting in a room right now tabulating it, preparing some pie charts and powerpoint so they can make a decision this weekend.

Group one is overrated
You know for those of us that would make status anyway... the "no bonus" is the best method! Everyone races off to make status on AA, UA etc. So that means that while they are gone we have less competetion on the upgrade lottery and if they don't make status on DL next year's upgrade lottery is easier too. Hmm.......
(Of course if everyone makes status and races off to another airline at least my odds improve for the 2nd half of the year so that's positive.)
And Gargoyle you left off the Ouija board. (I think that's the main method used by airline employees. That or the Magic 8 Ball!)

There's a Voodoo Priestess not far from MIA who has an excellent track record.
