No, DL apologists, don't shoot me down, saying, we got millions of threads on this already. I have something new for you. I am NOT talking about the higher "taxes" for ex-EU flights (e.g., $240 for MUC-CDG, $500 MUC-ORD). I am talking about different taxes for the exact same award:

PDX-MUC 90k miles + $171.37 for the general public.

PDX-MUC 90k miles + 171.37 when logged into my EU-based account.

For those who have missed the news, the €:$ exchange rate isn't quite 1:1, and €171.37 amounts to about $250.

Just a glitch, or a new enhancement to spoil the overly pampered European customer (who already benefits from lack of upgrades, ridiculous award "taxes," absence of a mileage redemption chart, etc.)?

Not even a new enhancement. Has been there for a while, but due to fuel surcharges previously not being charged to US customers, it was not as transparent.

But I stopped caring, since the DL Skymiles program has evolved into one of the worst programs there is for non-US based frequent fliers (= those giving the revenue to the airline, rather than stacking up MQMs through AMEX credit cards / Hilton stays / car rentals).

Zero MQMs this year and it'll stay that way for me.

Other airlines have all those fees & surcharges as well, but at least I got options to redeem my miles on their partners without all those idiotic restrictions DL has with their partners (i.e. no long-haul upgrades on their joint-venture partner AF, no AF/KE First Class awards, ...)
