I havent done this yet but i called up Starwood 1-888-625-4988 and asked them if this is possible. What i understand is:

a) You can set up your Starwood account to earn miles 'directly' instead of points for 'Hotel activities ONLY...Not StarwoodAmex CC activities'.

b) The Starwood member hotel must allow credit for dines at their hotels. So call up the hotel first to verify this. IF they do allow, then whenever hotels post your points, your account will automatically convert them to miles. And this will happen within ATMOST 14 days. Thats what she said.

Ofcourse for this Starwood must have your Delta Skymiles number on file. I had that when i set up my account. And i believe you can always ask the rep to add it when you call.

However, the extra points you earn by using Starwood Amex will still post as Starwood points and not DeltaSkymiles.

Anybody knows whether "Staying in a hotel" is the ONLY hotel activity that will be recognised for this promo or any other hotel-activities (other than points transfer) will count as well? How did it work out last year? Anybody?

You don't have to stay in a hotel to get credit. A point transfer will do.

Also, way way back in this thread someone did explain how one could eat at the restaurant of a Starwood hotel and get Starwood points.

I believe you are being misled. Post your scenario in the Starwood forum and ask Starwood Lurker to comment. He has a much better understanding of the intricacies of the Starwood program than any random CSR you call on the phone.

Unless something has changed in the last month or so, I have no doubt that he will tell you that you CANNOT get Delta miles directly from a Starwood restaurant without an associated hotel stay.

Hello ExitRowAisle: I will post in Starwood forums right away. However, the rep did not merely say that it is possible, she actually set my account up for that to be possible.

Also the hotel said they do give points for dine only (without a stay) for a minimum purchase of $10.

Evan: There indeed was a post, but from what i recall it did not say if the person actually did it and got the miles. It seemed like a suggestion to me. I would love to know if someone actually tried it and got any miles posted from Starwood directly into their FF account.

This is how the promo reads,

Quote:
Eligible cards include one SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express...
Perhaps you can ask DL to make sure?

Thanks a bundle for the link tvl4free! Good luck on the promo...BTW Budget allowed a 12 hour rental for 5K tonight. Just got back from TPA ( naturally I got lost in the Everglades coming home making it a 551 miles trip) I guess it's time for a Tom Tom. I still need a SkyMall purchase. If I can help you with an address or anything else just let me know. 'fast lane current DVD'..geez charge a dollar SkyMall so we can have a inexpensive partner.

As I understand the T&Cs, miles from the Delta Amex card and miles transfered from Amex via Membership Rewards would count as 2 unique partners - right?

Hmm... I signed up 2/26 and already have a 2/26 credit card charge. I think I won't receive miles and won't be able to use Netflix as a partner. (Netflix must be smarter now in detecting former members.) Did this happen to anyone who received miles?

I am slightly confused as to why people are insisting on using SkyMall for this promotion. Shop4miles allows for itunes purchases for miles. .99 for 1 mile with no S&H charges seems like a great deal.

I made this purchase and received confirmation of the sale and that miles should be posting. Granted, they have not posted yet, but all seems to be on the up and up.

I'm not sure why you'd do SkyMall or Shop4Miles. They are in the long list of partners that all count as 1. If you did the free Ameriprise Insurance Quote, then Shop4Miles and SkyMall don't count.
