I could not agree more with your sentiments. There are promotions and there are promotions. The fact that DL made its rules unclear is no reason for some to say that it should have been this way or that way.
For instance, some have intimated that every dine should count as a unique activity, or that every Skymiles shopping purchase be treated as a unique activity! Ridiculous!
To speculate or expect that 25 separate dines at any dollar value ought to fulfill the conditons of the current promotion is wishful thinking at the very least, and more likely delusional absurdity at its most fanciful.
For just one second, lets compare this to a very very similar promotion that NW offers from time to time under various monikers such as "miles safari" "mega miles" etc etc. In those promos, the T&Cs are extremely clear as to what counts and what does not count and exactly how it counts. Right down to S&H charges at the NW mall do not count, dines must be >$x etc etc. Its very very clear rather than this mumbo-jumbo that DL has cobbled together.
Not to suggest that we, DL's fine customers should be allowed to write the rules, but I do think, particularly in this day and age, that we deserve some level of clarity greater than what DL has so meagerly provided.
And, for the record, NW promos generally count each mall or dining transaction as a separate partner transaction (of late, with a minimum purchase, of course) In fact, unlike DL, NW even posts the name of the restaurant or mileage mall partner making it very easy to see what is what.

Would these bonus miles extend the life of one's account until Dec 09?

Account Deletion and Mileage Expiration

Currently, miles will not expire as long as you participate in one of the following activities at least once every two years:
Earn miles for travel on a qualifying Delta, Delta Shuttle®, SkyTeam, or other SkyMiles airline partner flights.
Earn or redeem miles with one of the SkyMiles program partners including hotels, car rentals, Delta SkyMiles Credit Card from American Express, international credit card partners, SkyMiles Dining & Hotels by Rewards NetworkSM, MilePoint.com, mortgage lenders, CAP magazine subscriptions, real estate, or telecommunications partners.
Buy Miles here at delta.com or by calling the number on the back of your SkyMiles card.
Redeem miles on Delta, Delta Shuttle, a SkyTeam partner, or another SkyMiles airline partner. Redemption of previous program awards does not extend the mileage expiration date.

Any of the partner activities you need to get the bonus will extend your expiration until December 2009, so whether or not the bonus miles themselves extends expiration is a moot point.
I don't think I had used the SkyMiles Shopping Mall anytime recently and I used it last week and they already posted, but I'm guessing now that individual merchants won't count since Delta (unlike other airlines I've made such purchases through recently) doesn't even bother to show the specific merchant.
Another I don't think I've seen mentioned is ShareBuilder. I actually use their service already and didn't think about it until my 500 points/quarter I get through them anyway posted today giving me one more partner.

Thanks, Beckles. Good addition to the list even if we are not sure that it will count.
Does DL give miles for newspaper and magazine subscriptions like some other airlines?

A moot point in this case, but everyone should know that bonus miles do not extend the expiration date. A lot of people got burned during the 3 to 2 year transition, because the falsely assumed that bonus miles would extend their accounts.

I'm up 500 miles. No drycleaner signup, so it's eMiles. But, WHOA all my activity is missing! Balances are correct, but it says no activity for the last 12 months!
Anyone else?
I emailed Delta about this issue (missing activity) since it affected both mine and my husband's account. The response showed that they had no clue as to what I was talking about. I then called the website number. He also did not understand the issue at first. But after 20 minutes or so, he might have gotten the point. He say he was writing up the concern to be forwarded for correction. We will see what happens.
Despite what they say, E-Rewards posts within 3 days of your request for transfer to Delta. In fact, it might have been sooner, but there was the intervening weekend to perhaps delay it.

Wow....I just signed up for the Clothing Care last Thursday and the 500 miles have already posted to my account. I also spent a paltry $2.00 at the Deltashopping Mall last week with the Kodak Gallery. I spent 40 cents for 4 pictures and $1.49 to pick up the photos at a nearby photo shop to save on shipping costs. Today, I have 2 miles posted on my account for the Deltashopping Mall. Can't beat that.
As someone said above, since the miles post as Deltashopping Mall, I guess this must mean we can only count one merchant within Deltashopping Mall. That still does not address the issue however as to whether or not we can count partners such as Java City, SkyMall or Netflix, etc as one qualifying activity each or not. I would think so if the goal is to get us to use their partners, however, the T & C's are very confusing on this issue.

Thanks for the notice. I just checked my and the spouse's account and there were the clothing care miles!! 5 down, 5 to go!
As for your recounting that it might be only 1 dine and 1 purchase per account, I stated that because it did not seem probable that DL would permit you to do many of these activities over and over again for purposes of the promotion, but it has been reported above that some airlines, AA and NWA for example, do count each separate dine/purchase as a unique acclivity.
Unfortunately, I again restate that I don't think that will be the case here for this rather obvious fact. If DL has gone to great pains to limit hotel activity to either a points transfer or a hotel stay, and furthermore, has also limited one to only one hotel stay within a specific group or family -- if you are going to do a hotel stay -- then it seems highly, highly, unlikely, that they will count each separate dine and/or purchase from Skymiles shopping as a unique activity for the purposes of the promotion. I wish it were not so, but it apparently seems to fit within their concept of the promotion.
As for the Java City, Vinesse, et. al., as I said before, I don't understand the rationale for limiting the purchase from this group to only one as it seems they are quite disparate and even do not fall within the same categories as provided by DL, yet the language they have provided leads me to that suppositon.
We will just have to wait and see as to how this plays out in the days and weeks ahead.
