The delta B777 does have personal airvents. I flew on a iberia A340-600 without personal airvents and it was very comfortable. I had no idea that carriers are choosing not to have them though.

You can get one for about $10 at Walgreens and similar stores. They have a rope, hang around your neck like a necklace and blow up towards your face. Soft rubber fan blades (so if you stick your fingers in them it just tickles a bit or stops) or else plastic blades inside a plastic cage.

Shhhhhhh. Surely the TSA will ban these air disrupting devises as evil.

All the new planes seem not to have personal air vents. Flew a new 777-300 for 14 hours and new A340-500 for 18 hours and neither had personal air vents. Both flights got rather warm.

In 1933 Boeing introduced the 247 with personal air vents. Now they are producing these pre-1933 ventilation systems on their 777 & 767.
DL 777s have the vents as do almost all the 767-300s. There is a small sub-fleet of ex-Gulf Air 767s that do not have overhead vents.

IIRC, isn't it very, very hard to even reach the air vents when sitting in the center section of the 763 and 777 aircraft? I think one time I had to stand on a seat just to reach the damn thing.

And the one time I was on one of those (ATL to MAN last August) it was really rundown and ratty compared to the regular 763s. The WC behind the cockpit looked like it was being patched together with caulk put on by someone who had a drink or two too many, and the whole BE cabin felt cramped and shabby. I was thrilled when we boarded the return a couple weeks later and it was a regular 763, even though it had been scheduled as an ex-Gulf plane. The quicker they get those refurbished the better, or at least keep them off the routes I am on.

I prefer the individual air vents not so much for temperature, but for a bit of relief when my seatmate hasn't showered recently.

In fact, you cannot reach the center section air vents whilst seated!

Now I'm really worried about the comfort of our ex-Gulf Air flight, ATL/SNN in May!

Or if the meal service consists of a large portion of beans.

(Flew Qantas first class on three flights in 1999, and I was amazed at the amount of beans they served on each flight.)
