How can I earn MQM w/o flying?

HELP! I am short 63 miles to maintain my current Medallion status - does ANYONE have any thoughts as to how I can earn at least 63 Medallion Qualifying Miles (MQM)?

Hilton currently has a promo where you earn 1000 MQMs plus triple miles for every stay until Nov 30 I believe.

Welcome to Flyertalk!

Welcome to Flyertalk!

Probably your best bet as of right now - who knows when the Dining Network MQMs would post (personally, I'm hoping it's in 2009, since that's another 1k MQMs towards requalifying for Platinum!).

Short of the Hilton, your best bet is to fly one segment. Or get one of the AmEx cards (Plat/Reserve) that give you MQMs.

Wirelessly posted (Mozilla/4.0 (compatible; MSIE 4.01; Windows CE; PPC; 240x320))

It would be great if we could make this a sticky, at least through the end of the year.

Why bother? No one reads the stickies, anyway.

Welcome to every other thread for the rest of the year.

FLY, it is a frequent FLYER program.

Not really, if you're referring to SkyMiles.

Doesn't this have to be a 2 nt stay?

Has anyone actually gotten the 1000 MQMs in their account yet?

Yes, which can make it more economical many times to do a quick R/T somewhere than do a 2 night hotel rental.

Yes. I had a Hilton stay on October 7-9 and my SM account shows the double dip miles posting on October 7, although I don't really think they actually posted before I finished my stay. My MQM bonus posted on October 15 along with the 08 HOTEL BNS 2 of 2,500 bonus miles (see this thread). I happen to be going back to the same Hilton next week and I look forward to another 1000 MQMs, which do come with 1000 bonus RDMs. And this will also be my third hotel stay for the other bonus, so I look forward to those 5,000 bonus RDMs as well.

Only 14 more miles!

I feel your pain, Jenni. I am only 14 miles short! I emailed Delta, but as I suspected, they won't make any exceptions. I have 4 more trips lined up for this year, so I'm begging my corporate office to use Delta just once. All four of the cities are served by Southwest, but I explained to the travel dept that by getting me to Medallion they'd save next year by avoiding the Delta baggage fees. No response from them yet.

Besides the Hilton promo, any other suggestions?

Paul

Man, I need to keep up on this stuff. I surely would have maxed out the 6000MQMs if I knew about this sooner. I need about 7000MQMs after all planed travel for gold. I will only be able to get in on this once by the end of this month. Too bad it has to be 2 days at the same hotel. I have 3 nights at one and 1 at another next week. And no they are not in the same area, or I would make it 2 nights at 2.

Flying might be your best bet, after all...

I'll give you my example- I am a bit short of the 100,000 MQM bonus line. So this is my plan:

Your ingredients: i. Free afternoon, ii. 398 dollars or less, iii. a book or MP3 player (you will spend time on the plane).

(a) Registered for the double MQM from LaGuardia to Boston (BOS) or Washington, DCA (The shuttle promotion)
(b) Ideally, use your Amex (double miles) card.
(c) Buy two RT tickets: LGA-DCA and LGA-BOS. Make sure that the departure for the one you select as the second RT is at least 30 minutes after the first one land (i.e.LGA to DCA 4:00pm-5:10, then DCA-LGA 5:45pm to 7:00 then LGA-BOS 7:10pm-8:20pm then BOS-LGA 9:00-10:15pm). Times vary abit by the day of the week.
(d) Did that? great, go and fly- this is what you'll get, adjust bonus miles by your current status.

each segment: 500 miles and 500 MQM (total 2000 miles and 2000 MQM).
double promotion bonus: 500 MQM per segment (total 2000 MQM).
double miles for status (GM/PM): 2000 miles, if you are silver is 25%, make it 500 miles bonus.
used your amex: 796 miles
All together: 4000 MQM, 4796 miles.
Price per MQM/Mile earned: MQM 0.0995 per MQM, mile 0.08298 per mile.
Yes, other people can show you routes that may even cost less per mile. But, this one can solve your problem in one free morning or afternoon (and if you don't really care about the total number of miles, one RT segment is enough for you to reach your mileage status line)

I am only 26mi short of Gold and would love to take advantage of the Hilton offer if it wasn't for 2nts-guess it will have to be a short MR.

upgrader Nov 25, 2008 12:07 pm

Remember, you only have to be there to register and give them your credit card number so they'll be able to charge you for two days. You can then leave and still get the MQMs. No need to hassle with an actual hotel stay or an airplane trip. It does not have to be a Hilton, per se, only a hotel in the Hilton family. I don't know where you live in/near LA but there must be some cheap weekend rates among all the LA area hotels with the Hilton family brand. Just a thought.
