On an Award TIX in F - what happens if cx for weather?
Hypothetical question...
Flying SLC - JFK in F, booked w/miles.
What happens if the flight is cancelled/severely delayed due to weather?
In your experience, will they put me out on the next flight in Y or is DL obligated to keep me in F?
I would think that if there are a lot of stranded pax and some have actually paid $$$ vs. SM for the fare then they'll get priority to be rebooked in F.
Although, as a GM I am guessing they'd put me in a "Y" bucket for travel disruption and I'd be towards the top for an upgrade. What do you think about my general-member fiance who is traveling with me (different PNRs) in this situation?
Thanks....

Only once was I on an award ticket (R class) and re-booked due to wx in ATL. I went to the customer service area and scanned my old BP and it spit out a new BP that said "Coach Y" but the seat was 5A in first class on the 764. I didn't ask questions and there were no issues.

Earlier this year Mrs. Doodiedan was on an award ticket in F and due to a last minute equipment change she was bumped to Y. To much of my protesting the ticket agent said that all other pax in F were on paid F. I didn't believe her, but what was I going to do?
She did say that award tix are the last to be reaccommodated in F, but YMMV.

Out of curiousity, is Mrs.Doodiedan a medallion? Was any compensation (difference in miles needed for F vs. Y award) given?

The rebooking pogram will typically give next available on DL metal. If you want to wait for F (at your own expense), tell them so.

Tracyutah- This happened to me just last week. I was on award travel from ATL-LGA on a flight (8:40A) that was cancelled. They rebooked me on the next available flight (9:40) and booked me into Y.
Because there were storms approaching that morning, I left early to try to same-day confirm onto the 7:40. I was planning on just changing my flight at the kiosk, but because my original flight had been cancelled by the time I got there, the kiosk instructed me to see an agent.
Agent was able to rebook me on the 7:40, but didn't realize that I was originally in F, so she simply assigned me a seat in Y, even though there were seats in F available on that flight.
I had to call SMS and speak with a Crown Room agent to try to get it straightened out. And even then they couldn't assign me a seat, only confirm me in F. I had to work with the frazzled gate agent to try to get an actual seat assignment. It was kind of a mess.
But the bottom line is that according to my experience, if you are travelling on award ticket in F, and your flight is cancelled, DL will rebook you on the next flight. If there are seats available in F, then you will get one (but only after paid F pax are cleared), and if not, they will rebook you in coach.
Looking back, I should have SDCed to the 7:40 prior to leaving for the airport, but I was afraid of not making it to the airport in time, and being in an even worse position.

What happens if you were we rerouted for weather...will you get original mileage credit if you request it? I need it to reach an MQM threshhold!!! It's a NW-issued ticket on DL metal.

You can call SMS and get the original routing mile credit. Although keep in mind if you were re-routed, you should have been booked into "Y" class and thus you'll earn 1.5 x whatever miles you actually fly on the disrupted portion of your travel. In most cases this 1.5x mileage ends up being more than the alternate route you were diverted from.

A little OT because this thread's about award tickets - if you are on a paid ticket, I would wait to see how the re-accommodated flight mileage posts before/instead of requesting original routing credit.

I didn't realize there was a bazillion MQM perk. What is it?

Same applies to HUP fares too.
Inventory restrictions are removed.
Award first during irrops can have next available DL first class cabin seat.

If you want to fly sooner, downgrading to Y is your option.

One step further - what if the ticket was booked in first with miles from a partner airline? i.e. if they were booked with FF miles from CO?
