DL Switching to A330s on JFK-LHR?

Per A.net. Could just be a rumor, but seems plausible considering the A330NEO order. I for one would welcome this change. The 767s are dreadful in J.

If true I'll be on DL metal to LHR more often. I fly VS or connect through AMS/CDG to avoid 767 if possible and time allows.

BTW this isn't unrealistic. DL only went to LHR being all 767 not too long ago. I remember flying 777 and A330 ATL/LHR back in 2015.

Same. I often connect via AMS to smaller UK airports. I've also done LON-AMS-US on separate tickets to avoid the APD when on award tickets. This change would make me more likely to use LHR.

Really? I thought DL went all 767 on into LHR a number of years ago when the 767-400 was the first sub fleet to be 100% lay flat?

It was around 2011 all 764s but around 2015 there were multiple aircraft types to LHR until recently when DL made LHR all 763s.

I guess they aren't getting the premium traffic they expected. The A330's are for routes with lower yields. The 767 is a premium heavy aircraft. This will introduce a ton of Y seats.

That's what I remember.

LHR should be a premium-heavy high yielding market, although DL might be experimenting with cutting D1 capacity in an attempt to raise D1 fares on the LHR routes.

OTOH if competitors on this route are using aircraft with new interiors, DL might feel (and I would agree) that the A330 D1 seat can compete better than the 767 D1 seat. I think I saw some discussion of AA putting its aircraft with the good seats (IIRC 77W) on some of their LHR routes. BA generally has horrible business class configurations, so that wouldn't matter much.

I started flying DL to LHR frequently in 2015. If it was all 764 in 2014 or earlier I don't know. However in 2015 there was multiple non 767 flights. Flew 777/A330 multiple times that year to LHR. Then in 2016 went to all 767 with exception of one daily ATL A330. They got rid of the ATL A330 at some point in 2016 and went all 767.

Doesn't DL operate both 763's and 757's (PHL) to LHR?

767 is used in general. Some routes are 764, some 763. However all except PHL/LHR are 767.

PHL/LHR is only being operated to keep the LHR slot. Thus 757 is what they operate on it since they never really wanted to operate PHL/LHR to begin with. Once it moves to where ever they actually want it I'm sure it'll change to 767 also.

I understand, but there's a difference between "767 is used in general" and the two posts I quoted that state LHR is "all 767." Until next year that's a false statement.

? 767 in general means 763 or 764. LHR is currently all 767 unless something has changed.

The 752 on PHL-LHR is the only outlier, but it will be gone soon enough.

Route is only even flown to keep the LHR slot. DL would've put a 767 on another route to LHR using it if they could've.

There are no more 764s into LHR; it's all 763 and a 75S on PHL-LHR.
