Wifi SEA - HNL on 737-900?

I don't see Wifi listed as an amenity on my flight from SEA to HNL tomorrow (DL 2215), but I am pretty sure all 737s have wifi, right?

Believe that the 739's still use ATOG Gogo systems which only work within 100 miles of shore. According to a'net, the first 739 (N801DZ) is currently in mods as a 2Ku prototype.

I thought some of the 739s had been fit with a satellite WiFi system, but not all. That said, when i flew SEA-KOA last year on a 739, no WiFi... :-(

You may not see the -900ER flying to HI much in the future. DL is restoring some 757-200 flying out of LAX to HI due to poor performance by the 739. I know the pilot base at LAX is being adjusted due to the increase in 757 flying to the islands. I don't know about SEA b/c there's already a healthy base of 7ER (757/767) pilots based there.

The 737 refurb thread notes a lot of -800s with 2Ku satellite wifi but doesn't list -900s with 2Ku (or Ku)

Flying HNL-SEA this summer, was originally on the 739, has been been bumped up to the 763

Thanks - I have to say Im not looking forward to such a small plane for such a long time! What do you mean when you say they are being replaced due to poor performance?

739ER range is a little less than they hoped. Instead of blocking seats on a 739 (or bumping passengers on a day with unfavorable winds), they are making some moves back to using 757-200s or 757-300s - both of which have plenty of range for West Coast to Hawaii flights.

There is not a chance in heck that I would fly a 737 to HNL. ATL-to the west coast is bad enough.

I had 739s both ways on SEA-HNL in May; no 2Ku, so no Wifi except near land (the last bit of HNL-SEA wound up going nearly over PDX). I prefer the 752/753 anyway for a bunch of other reasons.

(Alas, the reason for my SEA-HNL travel is going to be a reason for SEA-MDT travel in the future. No nonstops on that route, whether they're 739s or something better....)

Great Circle Mapper:

ATL-SFO, 2,139 statute miles

SFO-HNL, 2,398 statute miles

There are Alaska, United, and Delta 737s headed to Hawaii today from SEA, PDX, SFO, OAK, SJC, LAX and SAN. The future is more 737s (and MAX variants) to Hawaii, not fewer.

I would certainly go for the A330 non-stop ATL-HNL myself but I'm also prepared to pay a premium vs. a connection.

Thanks for the replies. I would also prefer A330 or larger for this flight, but I use SFO as a base, so it's either up to SEA or down to LAX...
