Who this would really help is the DM's who fly Trans-Con J and mostly international flights. They get SkyClub Access with either their tickets or would get it at GM.
They can get something extra instead of the membership that is mostly redundant for them. And if you're a DM who flies transcon J and internationally you're a customer that DL wants, and they've found a way to reward them but make it look like an enhancement for all DM's.

Delta Choice Benefits Changes for 2018 for Diamonds
Delta will be changing their choice benefits for the 2018 Medallion Year for Diamonds.
Key takeaways are they are adding a third choice benefit selection to choose from, however with that they are moving the automatic Sky Club Individual membership option.
A new Choice Benefit is a Delta Sky Club Guest Pass, where you can receive unlimited Delta Sky Club access for up to two guests per visit.
In addition, Delta Diamond Medallions can make multiple selections of same benefit.
Thanks to the Delta Diamond Rep this evening in SLC who confirmed all these changes. They should be posted on Delta's site shortly.

IMO it would be better if the choice were denominated in a fixed number of guest lounge benefits rather than two people an unlimited number of times.

Diamond Medallion Members who have complimentary Delta Sky Club access via an eligible credit card will have the new option to select a Delta Sky Club Guest Pass to receive unlimited Delta Sky Club access for up to two guests per visit when traveling with the Card Member.
Diamond and Platinum Medallion Members will now have the option to gift bonus miles to another Member's SkyMiles account.
Diamond Medallion Members will now have the ability to make multiple selections of the same benefit, excluding Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates and Delta Sky Club Memberships.
These changes offer a large number of our Members who have other means to enter Delta Sky Club, such as the Delta Reserve Card from American Express, the opportunity for an additional Choice Benefit selection to get the most of their Status. Members who reach Diamond or Platinum Medallion Status are immediately eligible to select Choice Benefits. Centurion Card Members who are awarded complimentary Platinum Medallion Status must fly a minimum of eight Delta-marketed and –operated flight segments after Status is awarded to be eligible for Choice Benefits. Eligibility for Choice Benefits is based upon a Status change to Diamond or Platinum Medallion within a given Status year. BTW "Dot Com" support says there is an issue with the guest pass for Sky Club showing up as a choice. Give them a few hours to fix it.

Just got a news wire email about this. Being able to select both 2017 and 2018 DM benefits at different times (starting today) is huge! Definitely an actual enhancement!

Delta SkyMiles is making big improvements for Diamond Medallion Members’ Choice Benefits – a loyalty program feature that only Delta provides its elite members.
Choice Benefits are designed to give Delta’s most loyal members the unique power to self-select options to customize their travel experience and gain the greatest value for their status.
Starting Feb. 1, when qualifying for 2018 status, Diamond Medallion members will be able to make three Choice Benefits selections instead of the current two. In addition, members will have added flexibility with a new feature that enables selecting the three Choice Benefits at different times throughout the Medallion year versus being restricted to selecting all at once. Choice Benefits options include Upgrade Certificates, Delta Sky Club Individual or Executive Memberships, Delta Sky Club Guest Pass, the ability to gift status, bonus miles, travel or retail gift cards and Global Entry application vouchers.
“Delta is the only airline that provides an amazing loyalty program feature like Choice Benefits.” said Sandeep Dube, Vice President – Customer Engagement and Loyalty. “We spend a lot of time with our members understanding how to make SkyMiles better for them. The additional Choice Benefit and the new more flexible selection process was made in response to member feedback to make SkyMiles even more rewarding for our Diamond Medallion members.”
A key component to the change is moving Delta Sky Club access to a Choice Benefit option for Diamond Medallion members. This move offers a large number of members who already have other means to enter Delta Sky Club, such as the Delta Reserve Credit Card from American Express, the opportunity for an additional Choice Benefit selection.

- Members who achieve Diamond Medallion status for the 2018 Medallion year will now receive three Choice Benefit selections instead of two.
- Diamond Medallion members will still have access to Delta Sky Club membership, which must now be selected via Choice Benefits starting with the 2018 Medallion year.
- An Individual Membership can be selected by using one Choice Benefit or an Executive Membership can be selected by using two Choice Benefits.
- Diamond Medallion members who have complimentary club access via an eligible credit card will have the new option to select a Delta Sky Club Guest Pass to receive unlimited access for up to two guests per visit when traveling with the card member.
- Diamond and Platinum Medallion members will now have the option to gift bonus miles to another member’s SkyMiles account.
- Diamond Medallion members will now have the ability to make multiple selections of the same benefit, excluding Global and Regional Upgrade Certificates and Delta Sky Club memberships.

Quick question, my delta diamond skyclub card says my membership expires January 31, 2018. My online profile on DL.com says this:
Your active Membership Expires Feb 26, 2017
Your future Membership(s) Expire(s) Mar 05, 2019
So, what in the hay does this mean? I take it I am good until March 05, 2019?
That to me means when I choose my 2018 CB's and I want to maintain my skyclub membership, I wont have to choose the 'skyclub membership' as an option? And no, I don't have the Reserve Card, just the Platinum Card.

Too bad about not being able to select 4 GUCs multiple times, which would be the only way this could get further better. But understandable.
But I do wonder if it's possible to select 4 GUCs for one benefit and 8 RUCs for another? That's still not clear in the language. Anyone already unlocked 2018 DM status who cares to check it out? Looking at the interface for choosing 2017 benefits, I suspect not, since GUCs and RUCs are still sub-categories within "upgrades", but would be nice if you could.
