One 12 year UM and a lousy $150 fee that might be missing. OP party certainly doesn't appreciate those boring uneventful flights.
Enjoy! Have a plan B and be there on time in case Delta needs to finish all the unaccompanied minor procedures (e.g. paperwork completed, fees paid etc).

Also see what happened to an undeclared UM on AC (in a different thread today).
Though in that case, he was actually un-accompanied. Despite the fact that someone might point to this as a reason for you having to pretend you have a UM, what happened to this kid couldn't happen to yours. Because you're there.
Having two teens in Coach while you sit up front is only called "un-accompanied" for DL's revenue purposes.

I would disagree with you in terms that we have no idea what OP's kids are like. They could be fine upstanding kids who could manage the trip even if their parents weren't in D1, or they could be little jerks who disrupt the cabin.

I'm sure they're perfectly nice well behaved kids which is why the OP trusts them to be "by themselves" but DL has no way of knowing that ahead of time.

And we all know parent's who's little darlings are the apple of their eye's until the parent's aren't around and they turn into little terrorists.

But, how is paying a $150 fee going to change this situation - or anything they may do once on board?!?

I see the $150 fee being mostly for the escorts to take the UM from the ticket counter to the gate and from the plane to baggage, etc. These kids won't need any of that extra assistance that adds to the payroll.

So, if you put the kids in the luggage compartment, you'll have to pay a UM fee - then again, you won't need to buy them seats if you stuff them into luggage, so you'll save money that way. Maybe the 12 year old will fit in the 21" size bag, but you should get at least a 28" expandable for the 15 year old. Just sayin ...

Some people are "disturbed" at the mere presence of children. We're talking about a 15-year-old and a 12-year-old here, not toddlers.

Delta has just changed the rules. When the parents/guardians are in BE/F and the kids are in the coach cabin, doesn't matter C+ or C-, Delta will still enroll the kid/s (i.e. do the paperwork/wristbands, etc) and waive the fee. Problem now solved....hopefully...lol.

Here's the exact wording from the Contract of Carriage. Seems clear that in this context, D1 and Coach are different compartments of the same flight, and thus DL defines in their contract with OP that they will not accept a child under age 15 as "accompanied".
RULE 26 CARRIAGE OF CHILDREN
A. Accompanied Children
Except as set forth in this Rule, children under the age of 15 will not be accepted for transportation unless they are accompanied on the same flight in the same compartment by a parent, legal guardian, or other passenger at least 18 years of age

Ummm, Dave...."escorts" don't take the little darlings from the ticket counter to gate and from gate to baggage....parents/guardians do that.

I've seen red-vested agents handing UMs over to GAs before.

That said, at ORD recently, I was checking in at the ticket counter, and a guy next to me was trying to get a gate pass to pick up a kid at the gate, but, his name wasn't listed as the correct adult to turn the kid over to, so, there was a big ruckus!

It at least lets the FA's know that there are kids not with their parents and they can hopefully nip any potential issues in the bud.

It also alerts the FAs to look out for the kids in emergencies, make sure seat belts are fastened when they need to be, etc.

I hope the parents would sit close enough to do all of the bud nipping.

Obviously, $150 to "notify the FAs" (who are otherwise not going to take any action) seems reasonable.
