Per AJC DL is cancelling sponsorship of Fox Theatre

Talk about pouting. All based off a private event sponsored by Qatar tonight.

I guess the new DL CEO hates the ME3 as much as Anderson did.

Maybe DL won't be giving JLo VIP treatment anytime soon either.

Looks like J Lo will have to go board in zone 17 even with a FC/D1 seat.

No longer will she get the fancy VIP check in at LAX either.

It's all part of the advertising business, and stuff like this happens all the time. Why should DL support the Fox if the public perception is that The Fox is supporting Qatar? It shouldn't. The theater should know where its bread is buttered.

Al Baker was on CNBC earlier today about their expansion into ATL and anywhere else they can grow their business. I'm all in favor. We need more airline competition in this country.

Classic

Richard Anderson's spirit lives on. So funny to see a congenial airline morph into Northwest.

Because its a venue for rent, and in no way cares about the politics of what is going on with its sponsors?

By that argument Fox should have to go to EVERY sponsor, and seek their approval for EVERY event?

Of course The Fox has the right to host the event and Delta the right not to renew its sponsorship. Delta felt it was a poke in the eye and now is giving them the finger. Perhaps Qatar can take over the sponsorship...

Of course, Delta is perfectly justified in supporting or not supporting the Fox. But when a hotel is hired for a political event, it is not supporting that party. Most people realize that. Renting for private venues is a lucrative business and hardly a political statement. This just comes across as a petulant and childish overreaction. People in Atlanta have a long and sentimental attachment to the Fox Theater. I do not think that anyone thinks they are supporting anything by renting a hall. Are they supposed to evaluate every rental based on the background of the client?

The Fox is the making the better decision to go with Qatar. It is much more likely that Delta will go bankrupt (again) than Qatar. Delta will have to pull sponsorship again when tough times hit.

The Fox should weigh the costs and benefits of their events, yes. If they could fund the venue solely through private bookings, then this wouldn't be an issue, but they can't. That they can't requires them to change their calculus when it comes to booking the venue.

DL is a private for-profit entity, free to sponsor or not sponsor any organisation it wishes.

QR is a government owned, not-for-profit entity, free to sink its money into any route it wishes to fly or not.

...but they have the current sponsorship NOW. I am sure current budgets are based on that sponsorship. Sounds like The Fox will have some budget ground to cover. In advertising, you ALWAYS need to know the effect of every move. Fox blew this one.
